Sheepskins anew - Click HERE for Original Thread

I am considering ordering sheepskin covers for my X. There have been a few posts in the past but nothing recent and with very few replies from those that have purchased them. Has anyone actually purchased sheepskins, and if so, what is your opinion of of their form and fit? Do they have accomodations for the side airbags? Do they provide a little extra coushioning over the (somewhat) hard packing of the X seats? Anyone use www.superlamb.com products?

I can't speak to that brand. I have the custom fit from Rocky Mountain sheepskin and they are excellent. Around the same price once you add everything up.
The two outlet stores are local for me, so I had them do the install, but the skins themselves are beautiful.
Had to wait almost 2 weeks for them on special order, but it was well worth it.
They are 2 piece, top and bottom.
You can rotate the bottoms once a year if you want to even the wear.
But not the tops. Part of what makes the tops custom is the slits on the side that are closed with velcro for the side airbags. They do add to seat comfort, as well as save the wear on the leather.

TY DaleB for your comments. I had skins on a Volve SW I owned for a few years. Quite comfy winter and summer. Surprisingly cool in the hot muggy months. Very good at preserving the leather underneath too.

Are your skins formatted to the seat contours? The X has quite pronounced padding of the lateral bolstering. Do the skins form around these or when the seats are unoccupied do the skins loosely hang there with light folds?

Are you satisfied with the strappings holding the skins in place?

DMor also had some installed. I think they were called SheepSeats, and they might've been vests. You can do a search to see if that term pops up. It'll be 18 months old or so.

Thanks for that but actually I am not interrested in vest-type or center only modified skins. We prefer coverage for the entire seat. I will try to locate the website tho. Wish those that had skins installed would post follow up on their satisfaction.

TheWorm:
My search ended em at superlamb.com. Don't know where the SheepSkin came in. Superlamb is what was being referenced.
Thanks for the heads up tho.;)

I think the side impact air bags are inside the outer sides of the front seats and shouldn't be covered.

The manufacturers others have used and that I am considering slit the skins at the same location as the side airbags and use velcro closures. This should be perfectly acceptable but thanks for your concern.

Yes, they follow the contours very nicely.
It's a great fit. I am not sure what your interior is, but if your interior (or anyone's for that matter) is ebony do not get black sheepskins. They do fade in time. The gray or charcol have lighter tones in the weave and don't show fading as easily over the years.
The strappings seem fine, again, these were custom installed but it doesn't look like brain surgery. They do give you full care and installation instructions.
The 'vests' won't help saving any wear on the seat side bolsters only the direct seating area.
I can post a picture tomorrow if you like.

I've got Superlamb seat covers on my X. Actually, they are the vests that don't cover the side airbags. I liked the loolks of the vests as opposed to the full seat covers with the side slits.

I've got an ebony interior and went with the medium gray covers. They look very classy to say the least. Everyone comments on them.

The owner of Superlamb in San Diego will give you a discount if you say you hear of him through this forum. I got the seat vests, headrest covers and center console cover.

I highly recommend the vests. They fit perfectly.

Here's pics of the full covers by Rocky Mountain, you can judge the fit for yourself.
This is the backside, you can see the seam (closed with velcro) for the side airbag.

I appreciate you posting the pics DaleB, they are quite good. Terrific skins![/B] I particularly like the treatment of the seat back allowing the use of the rear seat pocket. It is obvious that the fiber has good depth. Do you find that the fiber has compressed very much? The skins nicely compliment your X. Great pics - TX again. :D

No, the fiber is quite resilient. Easy to perk up on the seat with a pet brush every several weeks.
