Im asking if anyone else is having this problem, or has had this problem and the dealership was able to fix it.

I have a 2002 mdx, since purchased new i have been unable to fill the fuel tank with anymore than 13 gallons. Once it reachs about 3/4 tank the nozzle keeps clicking off. Ive tried pulling it out some, but it still will not let me fill the tank. I have tried different gas stations with the same result. Help.

In the owners manuel, page 196, it lists the problem im having, and directs me to consult your dealer. I have taken the MDX in two times with no fix. They claim to have never seen this problem before, which i find hard to believe since its printed in the owners manuel. They claim they have tested the equipment, but there is nothing wrong.

Please, if you can direct me to the solution it would be of great help.
Thank you in advance.

Then at least he has "Seen" it!

I tried that the last trip, they insisted on calling the tech line before seeing it for themselves.

I haven't experienced it on my MDX, but I have had it happen on my old Honda Civic. It was solved by using a different pump. That is, in my case it wasn't the car that had the problem, but rather the gas station's pump.

Do you experience this problem at various station's?

Are you SURE that the tank is near empty when you're filling it? Your description sounds like it's full, and all MDXs act that way with a full tank. My suspicion is that your fuel gauge is inaccurate, and is telling you that you need to fill-up before you do. If that is happening, then you'd expect to be able to put maybe 17 - 18 gallons into the tank, but it won't let you because it's full with adding only 13.

To check this out, keep a full gallon or two-gallon can of gas in your MDX, and run it until it runs out of fuel. Then pour your gallon or two in and drive to the nearest gas station, and fill it until it clicks off. If the amount you put in at the pump, plus the amount you put in from the can, equals about 19 gallons, then the gauge is lying to you, and either the sender or the gauge readout in the dash needs to be replaced.

Thank you to everyone who responded. Palm Beach Acura was able to fix it this time. It turned out to be a bad fuel sending unit. Now on to the next problem. How do you get the smell of gas out of the inside? They must have spilled some while replacing the sending unit and when you open up the doors it smells of gas.

thanks

Personally, I would ask the service department to have the inside cleaned if that's the case...
