Just got mine, came in at 12:30 today. They were not due per the Fedex tracking site until Monday.
Took about 2 hours to install and was very easy to do. Did not even have any extra parts left over.
They look great.:29:
Will try and post a few pictures if it ever stops raining here. |

| Somebody post some good (close up) pics please. One of my Maniks was damaged and I'm thinking about replacing them with Tim's chrome ones. They appear to be a nicer fit and not as clunky as the Maniks. |

Clunky? I don't think they are bad at all but would have gone for the Acura steps if the chrome were available at that time.
That said, I wonder if I can run these into a curb........ :22: |

Actually, my left front bracket was bent back from the bottom. I believe they did it when they hoisted the car during service...but can't really prove it. It was really tough to see it, but once I noticed it, it bugged me, so I removed the left one. Because of the weld connecting the bracket to the chrome step, I doubt it can be twisted back into the original straight position, so I think they're "toast".
Passenger side is still perfect, but running around town with ONE sidestep was a little lame...so I removed that one tonight. Anyway, I don't recall hitting anything and based on the position, you'd HAVE to feel the impact. So, it remains an Acurian mystery.
I have noticed it's easier to get in and out tho! I can actually walk up to the side of the car. :4: |

You know that both rail and TheWorm have posted pictures of their powdercoated OEM steps. They should look very similar. |

Hi Tim,
My dealer told me that it will be available in Jan next year. Is this true for the dealer in NY upstate? Or they just don't order it until they sell out everything they have in their shop first? Any idea!
Thanks for your help! |

Hi BaldEagle:
___Thanks for the close-ups. Those Chrome SS’s look as good as I imagined! Are you thinking about chroming your 02’s Touring wheels in the future possibly?
___As for the weather, it looks like the whole West coast is getting an inordinate amount of rain this winter? I hope some of that makes its way to the Midwest as it has been unusually dry the last few years in some parts.
___And another side note … For stormy weather, your X looks as clean as the day you purchased it. Nice job. Are you for hire? I have three vehicles that need some detailing but it’s a balmy 30 degrees outside ;)
___Thanks again for the pic’s.

Thanks very much for the pics. I am still wringing my hands over which one to order from Tim (chrome/black). |

Bald Eagle,
Nice pics, thanks for posting them. Makes your X look "complete."
I spoke to Tim today and ordered the last chrome sidesteps he had in the warehouse, he shipped them out to me today. Now that I've seen your pics, I'm glad I got my order in on time.
Again, nice looking X. :29: |

Received my chrome side steps today and have the X all nice and clean (even though it was only 38 degrees out). Was thinking about spraying some of that rubberized undercoating on the brackets once I get them together but was wondering what you guys think. Do the brackets end up taking lots of stone chips and getting rusty?? Even though you can't see them I wouldn't want them to get too trashy under there!!
Thanks!! |

Nice and TIGHT against the frame. I like. Thanks for the Pics BaldEagle!

Good question.
The brackets are painted so my guess is that unless you live where the roads are frequently salted they will not rust.
Chips are a possibility if you travel on a lot of dirt roads.
I'll have to check mine after a few months. |

Long range forecast is for wetter weather in the West, but no relief for the Midwest. :( |

I just did a search for side steps because I'm looking for them right about now, discovered the CHROME ones are now available from Tim, AND discovered I just missed out on the group buy! AWWWWWWWWWWWKKKK!!!!!!! :3:
Tim, I see you don't think another group discount will be offered at least until Spring. Do you know if you'll have any chrome ones available at your regular price before then? Thanks,

Hi Wayne:
Confession time.
:13:
I had been driving my X around in the rain for a few days before installing the sidesteps and it was not very clean. After installing the steps I wanted to take a picture but the weather just did not cooperate. Then there was a short break in the weather (cloudy, dark, but no rain) and I didn't have much time (had to get back to work) so I did a real quick QD on one side of my X only.
On the left side only spayed down the bottom half of the X with water, wiped dry with a towel, slapped on some Z16 on the left side tires, and took the picture. The whole cleaning/drying process took about 10 minutes.
You don't want to see the right side of the car.
:1zhelp:
Thanks for the compliment. Just bring your TW MDX by and I'll do the 10 minute one side QD for you anytime.:1: |

Acura chrome side steps are $487.50 from Tim. Most members here paid about $80 to $100 less for the Maniks. |

The stainless steel Maniks retail for $490 but you can get them online for $368 + shipping from Nordleth if you ask for the 25% "member's discount". The OEM chrome steps retail for over $625 but you can get them from Tim for $488 which includes shipping. On the average the Maniks run about $100 less than OEM.
I went with the SS Maniks since at the time they were the only viable option (short of powdercoating the black OEM's for much more $) and couldn't be more content. Would not consider changing unless my Maniks were damaged and I had to replace at another's expense. However, not sure which I would choose if I had to make the same decision today, since these new chrome OEM steps are very tempting . . .   |

I paid $359 for Maniks in May of '01. Not so sure about that 25% discount? But I drove up there and probably cut a deal.
Anyway...if you type "Manik Side steps" into Google the FIRST link that pops up points to the Acura site displaying a pic of my rig after my (backwards) install. Nordleth has yet to respond to my email informing them of my Manik casualty.
I'll probably replace them with Tim's, if I replace them at all because I like them much better. However, the installation is more complicated.
Stay tuned for another backwards install in the spring! :4: |

Manik's plant is located in Montebello, which is right off the I5 fwy just south of downtown LA. They refuse to sell direct to the public, that's how I ended up with Nordleth - I too, p/up'd to save on shipping but still had to pay sales tax (damn Gov Davis) If I remember correctly, Manik warrants the SS steps for 1 year, but maybe you can plead your case since it was only the bracketsthat was damaged ? . . . |

I'm probably the Boston MA guy that Tim mentions had them sent out to in his 1st post. Got 'em Tuesday. They look awesome. Too bad I don't have my MDX till Jan though.
Well, I suggest to everyone to get these over the Maniks as they don't stick out, which means they look better with the car, AND they won't get your pants/shoes as dirty as easily as the Maniks would becuz of their protrusion. $440 inc. shipping is a great price from Hondaacuraworld, especially since the moron dealer wanted $959 for the 'ol regular side steps. Yeah OK buddy, my name isn't Buck Bundy and I don't live out in the boonies to throw a stunt like that on me for. :3: |

Here's what the Acura steps look like on the SS with BSM.
Today was my first drive after installing them and since I had the deer crash into my passenger door the first drive after installing the BSM I wasn't sure what I'd be in for today. Developed a bad cold (which installing the side steps in 40 degree weather didn't help any) so was going to the store for some medication. Thankfully no deer, just the local police pulled me over at noontime on a local road. Why, you say, on this last Friday before Christmas?? Maybe she was speeding, DWI, ran a stop sign . . . nope, she didn't have a front license plate which is required in this sorry State!:3:
Just got a warning but was VERY hot that he would pull me over for such a trivial violation. Hell, we have a law that says you must be running your headlights whenever it is raining, but you want to guess how many folks got warning citations for that today in the rain? :awais: None, just the 40something old lady in the shiny late model MDX with new side steps gets harassed. What made me even hotter was seeing the beat up Ford sitting on the road about a block away, where it has been for WEEKS, without a front plate!
Oh well, guess I've steamed enough. I came home and put on the plate :6: but need to post another message about that license plate bracket which isn't very sturdy without the lower holes drilled.
The step install was fairly easy but took me a long while with manual tools and I got the drivers side done first, torqued everything, then didn't like the spacing and decided to redo.
SUGGESTION: Do the passenger side first, that way if you screw things up you won't be looking at it every time you get in the car.
Also, unless I misread the instructions it never did mention tightening the longer bolts that hold on the brackets, or tightening the bolts going into the chrome steps, which are loose when shipped.
Although they're slightly out of alignment I'm pleased and will wait for drier and warmer weather to think about redoing.
Happy Holidays to all!! |

Hi MDXdogmom:
___The steps looks fantastic … Sorry about the deer.
___As for getting pulled over. I was pulled over tonight in Kenosha, WI because the rear plate on the Previa was to warn to see clearly. It is a 10 yr. old plate that has seen better days. No warning or ticket but just a friendly waste of 10 minutes of our time … Yeah, everyone shopping for Christmas presents needs to be pulled over for worn plates :)
___Good Luck

MDXDogmom,
Looks good. I just got mine yesterday although I had to re-thread one of the holes on the chrome step (mis-threaded). Emailed Tim about it. My Formfit air deflector also arrived broken (another story).
Did you spray the brackets with a rubberized protector, which you were thinking of doing for protection? If so, what did you use?
thanks,

No, I was going to spray them with some of the stuff I have (Westleys Rubberized Spray Undercoating) because they had some chips that were down to the metal, but with the cold weather and no shop or garage to do the spraying in, I decided to just spot the chipped areas with some flat black Rustoleum. I also waxed everything so hopefully they won't rust toooooo quickly with all the salt and chemicals used on our roads this snowy/icy winter!!
I got that undercoating stuff from a store like PepBoys or TracAuto and it does work fairly well. I sprayed a painted tab in the wheel wells of our Ranger over 7 years ago and the stuff still is intact and that was a fairly smooth metal piece. I think it would stick well to the rough brackets of the side steps, but would have taken more time (and effort) than I wanted to expend this winter. Hopefully the wax will protect the brackets somewhat and the loctite will sort of seal those bolts going into the frame. |
