Group Buy of spoiler from "trimking1" from eBay - Click HERE for Original Thread

there is another thread comparing the acura spoiler vs the ones offered by trimking1 on eBay. he is selling these on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...item=1874964828) for $245 + $20 shipping anywhere in the US, PAINTED. he uses DuPont paint, the spoiler and the paint job have a 3yr warranty, there are some members on here that have it and are very satisfied with it. i have talked to him and we can get it for $220 + $20 shipping if we can just get 5 people interested. let me know what you think.

i just want to add this: i know there is another GB of spoiler from tim and i'm not trying to take business away from tim, personally i just find the spoiler to be an accessory for aesthetic reason only hence i like to keep the cost down. more $ for me to buy other useful accessories from tim.

You don't have to justify how you spend your money to anyone, but I'm sure Tim understands that. It doesn't change the fact he is still the King of Acura Accessories! :D

I ordered a rear spoiler for my 02 SS MDX from trimking on ebay. I have to say, for the money, I think it's great.

I just picked up my 03 last week and I was planning to buy another spoiler from him anyways, so I'm in for GB.

Besides, the best price he gave me was 240 plus 20 for shipping.

Here's mine from Trimking

His (trimking) price is going up. He initially sold them for $199 painted. He quoted me $239 painted and including shipping (5/02). Now he's at $245 + $20 shipping. This GB brings it back to his previous price. Although these prices are all cheaper than the factory one.
laborlitigator
Yeah, like half of the OEM price (sorry Tim)

Will the Odyssey wing fit the MDX because a local shop owner says he can get any Honda part dirt cheap.
laborlitigator
How much less for a painted wind deflector would you want? $250 seems more than reasonable. Don't take a chance looking like the freak MDX with an Odessey part

a group buy should afford us a "real good" discount, irrespective of the oem price.

if the trimking was able to offer the rear defector for 209+20 not too long ago, he should be able to do at least that well for us. the economy is no better and the canada/us exchange rate is no better. the price may have gone up because more people are willing to pay the higher price.

i am not suggesting that the trimking not earn a fair profit but considering this is a group buy and that this rear deflector is secured by screws (instead of nuts and bolts like the oem) and requires some drilling of the deflector to line up the holes, i think it would be fair that the group buy price be no higher than 209+20.

just my .02

ebay doesn't allow me to look up completed items that far back so i cann't see the $199 price Emerald001 mentioned. if we have enough people interested in this group buy, i'll definitely bring this up to negotiate with him on the price of the group buy. but currently, it doesn't seem like we have enough people interested.

i originally started this group buy and was very interested, now i'm also researching spoilerdepot.com which also has a very competive price as well.

henry,

i went to www.spoilerdepot.com and the price of the deflector as you know is $133. additional $91 to paint. total is $224 plus address dependent s/h.one major advantage is that it comes with a lifetime warranty on the deflector and paint job from a big outfit.

based on this price, a group buy thru trimking should not be more than $200 including s/h.

if trimking cannot live with this amount, then i would definitely go thru spoilerdepot.

what do you think?

chris

p.s.-great job getting all this info for us!

I just hopped on the list. IF trimking can do the works for $200 I'd be interested.
Even $220 tops. That would certainly be a max.
Otherwise, I will follow you and go with Spoilerdepot.

Does anyone know if the hole alignment is off on the spoilerdepot parts also?

I would be ready to buy at or near $200.00. Thank you.

DaleB,

i had the same question regarding the hole alignment with the spoiler from spoilerdepot. they are not open for business today so i left an email with them this morning hope to hear from them monday. will certainly post my finding.

You are a rare one on this site. Two MDX's:29: :7: :18:

Do you still have both?

How about starting a new thread and tell us your story.:awais:

it's time to use the age old negotiation method:

My most expensive add-on were the sheepskins. I took my wife to the shop to see them. She sold me on them, and of course I acted a little reluctant at first. ;)

How much did they cost?

My wife is trying to talk me out of getting sheepskins. She said they may damage the leather? She is usually correct (easier to get along with if I leave it at that) but I'm wondering on this one.:8:

:6: Masterful tactic...Absolute genius! :D :4:
henry_atwork
well, here's the scoop guys ....

i do see some interest here for the spoiler purchase but perhaps i'm just not a good negotiator :( but trimking would not lower the price at all, $220+$20 shipping. i did mention to him about the hole alignment problem and he said they have corrected this problem ... anyone purchased recently can confirm this? i couldn't get much info out of him. :8:

on another note, talked to spoilerdepot.com and found their supplier for the spoiler. :D so, apparently there is this company called Texas Dar (http://www.texasdar.com) that makes these aftermarket spoiler for lots of companies, in fact if you go look at http://www.spoiler4less.com at http://www.spoilers4less.com/bfacstylrear174.html, the mdx license plate shows the company; spoilerdepot uses the same image on their website but blanked out the plate. :D anyways, you can see really how much more spoiler4less is charging people and why they offer free shipping. you can see that all these companies offer DuPont paint, spoiler made of fiberglass, 3yr warranty (not sure how spoilerdepot does lifetime warranty though  )

so, i actually talked to Texas Dar and they do sell to customers direct, best price i can get out of them is $114.40 raw + $85 painted so $199.40 for a painted one plus worst case shipping of $23 via UPS. if you are interested in this, give them a call at 1-888-556-2301 and ask for John(Jon) and mention this web site.

oh btw, if you are interested in purchasing from spoilerdepot, call them to save on shipping (from texas) because their website calculates shipping from florida (where they are located), and ask about the lifetime warranty, i don't know how that works.

so, to wrap this up, a quick summary of my research results:

trimking1 from ebay:
$220.00 painted
$20 shipping

spoilerdepot.com:
$113.00 raw
$224.00 painted
+shipping ($15 to SF, CA)

texasdar.com:
$114.40 raw
$199.40 painted
worse case shipping of $23

with the new found information, i think i'm leaning toward getting it directly from texasdar. make sense to me.

Never heard of that before. Unless the acitivity in the seat surpasses using it as just a place to sit down. I will not go further than that on this subject.

Hi Henry_atwork:

___I should have figured there was a better deal out there … The Spoiler Depot container has a DAR insignia printed right on it!

___PS: Great find! It beats my Spoiler Depot purchased TW RD for $238 shipped by quite a few bucks!

___Good Luck

with the prices so low, I think it's time to spruce up the mdx a bit:)

one thing i'm not sure of though, i have a black mdx and i'm not sure if i should get the spoiler painted or leave it the original color? any input would be appreciated. thanks.

ok, so i started this poll and it looks like there are already quite a few interested already so i would like to get a list of names together ... how do i check who voted "yes"?
kimsta
BaldEagle,

My parents took over the payments for the 02, so they are driving my ex-baby in NJ. My new baby 03 w/NAVI is mine. I regretted not getting the NAVI for my 02 so with the new version NAVI on the 03s, I had to get it.

So what's going on with the group buy?

Henry,
I thought based on the prices texasdar seemed like the best deal. Unless you want a group buy with them??
slash007
i got an email from texasdar saying that the raw color is grey. should i assume that is is charcoalish like the oem? or should i just get it painted black?

DaleB,

Sorry that I wasn't clear on my previous post regarding the different prices from the 3 vendors. The prices listed are what I found in terms of group buy discounts. I know the person I've talked to at TexasDar, John, already took down the information to setup this buy and he said just to have people call him and mention this web site and price ... I don't know how strict he will be in terms of counting the number of people buying. Since the price he gave me is based on the fact that I told him I know there are quite a few of us here shopping for spoilers, I would like to see at least a few people (say 5?) are definitely in for the buy so I can just give him a call for confirmation. Perhaps I should start another thread on the GB from TexasDar for spoiler so this information won't be imbedded in this thread ...

Yes, you may want to do that. And I apologize for my confusion. It was a lot more clear when I read it again.
henry_atwork
based on the information i've collected here and some research i have done on my own, i have decided to go with a painted spoiler from Texas Dar. if you are interested in the GB from Texas Dar, please reply at http://acuramdx.org/forums/showthre...=&threadid=9227 so i get a count of names and see if we could get further discounts if there are more people. otherwise, i'm happy at the current price.

FYI for those that are interested in a painted spoiler, I have just made my purchase from Texas Dar (http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...=&threadid=9227) and expecting it next Wednesday. I'll definitely post pictures/reviews after the install.

Anxious to see your pics. You have not heard there is a hole alignment problem on these, have you?
