Merry XMAS everyone! I have been searching the archives to review all of the posts for doing this service on my own. Thanks to the great input and advice from all you folks, I plan on doing this change myself. I came across a post from last December from member jford62, where the post recommended:
"As a footnote to the VTM fluid, I recalled reading a tip here somewhere about filling the fluid until it runs out the fill hole and then temporarily putting the fill bolt back. You then start the car and move it forward and reverse a few times. Remove the fill bolt again to top the fluid off. Both times I have added what I thought was a fairly significant additional amount."
I never saw a response to this tip and was wondering if any of you who have changed the VTM fluid themselves have done this? Here is the link to the original thread: http://acuramdx.org/forums/showthre...tm+fluid+change |

I have changed VTM-4 fluid 4 times now and have done this with every change. Each time it took more fluid.

Interesting about how to fill the VTM fluid, but it makes me wonder what my dealer did at my 7500 service. My x never came off the lift until it was completed and going over to be washed, so does that mean I'm low on VTM fluid? :(

I guess that is the real reason for my question, as I doubt any dealers take the X off the lift, drive it, put it back on the lift and top off the fluid. I'm also wondering if you do top it off, could you possibly overfill it? Although it would be hard for me to believe you could overfill it since any excess will run out of the fill hole. jford62, not disagreeing or questioning what you are doing, just trying to clarify the preferred approach.

It would seem to me the idea of filling and driving the vehicle, and then rechecking and topping off, would apply more to a NEW VTM assembly. Not one already in use on the vehicle.

I don't see how I could be overfilling the VTM, since the fluid can't be put in above the fill plug. I was just following a tip on read on this forum and it has worked for me. :)
