OK..lets do this !
I am looking to get some GOOD quality yellow foglight bulbs.
I am not to sure which ones would be the best or last the longest. I wanted to get the PIAA Yellow Ions...but they are only available in Hong Kong. What's the best available in the U.S. ?
I think we should organize a possible group purchase as well.
Ron....maybe you can hook us all up again ?
Does Razo make yellow ones?
I'm looking for a nice deep, dark yellow (amber) glow.
Please post your opinions, findings & links below. |
| I'm interested but crap I just bought a cargo net, tray, shift knob, and of course two MDX coffee mugs! My wife is ready to skin me alive if I spend another dime. (..don't tell her but ...keep me posted!). |
OK...I went to http://www.autofreak.net and found the following:
Manufacture: PIAA
Category: PIAA
Part Number: H136
Description: Piaa Plasma Ion Yellow/ H7/ 55w-100w
Price: $99.99
&
Manufacture: PIAA
Category: PIAA
Part Number: H131
Description: Piaa Plasma Ion Yellow/ HB(9006,9005)/ 55w-100w
Price: $89.99
Anybody know anything about these?!
I have an email info request in at SCV Motorworks for any info on yellow fogs. They specialize in accessories for Honda & Acura. I let you know what they tell me.
Are the yellow PIAA's available? Is that price each bulb or the pair? |
I just checked. The PIAAs are available, and I believe it is for a pair.
Keep us informed on your email response. |
I found these on the PIAA web site. They do not list the MDX but these are for the 96 - 00 SLX.
H3 Ion Crystal
Part Number: 13555
Bulb Type: H3
Wattage: 55w = 85w
Technology: Ion Crystal with
XTRA Technology
Ion Crystal Technology
This technology transforms white light into amber light without diminishing the strength of the beam, providing greater output than a standard dyed lens.
http://www.piaa.com/h3bulbs.html
Does anyone know if the MDX fogs are type H3? I am also interested amber fog lights, we have a lot fog in this area rolling off of Lake Erie. I could not find a price but my guess is they are $90 apiece.
GG Base Due April
| The lights in the MDX are #9006 or HB4 according to the manual. My Razos are 9006. |
Hi Guy's,
I'm with you need the yellow fogs right away. Thanks to Acura4Life for the info. I believe I am going to the Piaa Ion Yellow's (9006, 9005) I think we need the 9006 as opposed to the other bulb (H136) also listed. What do you guy's think???? |
Sounds good, but I don't know much about these PIAAs.
Not sure which type of bulbs is the best choice.
Anyone ?
| The PIAA ion yellow bulbs ARE available at autofreak.com and the proper size for fogs is 9006. I believe the cost is $89.99 per pair and as of 3-5-01 they WERE in stock. The order number is H131 "PIAA Plasma Ion Yellow/HB 9006/9005 55W-100W" (made for hi/low beams) ;they e-mailed confirmation that this bulb would fit the 9006 application in the MDX. |

MDXWDSM:
Could you ask them about the color?
I am looking for a nice DEEP / DARK yellow foglight.
Not those cheesy whitish/yellow bulbs.
Let me know.
I'm definitely interested.
ANYONE INTERESTED IN A GROUP BUY ?
Ron: Could you get these particular bulbs discounted for us members ?
Thanx !
:D |
| Count me in on a group buy for the yellow fogs! |
I did notice that one of the foglight bulbs is easy to REACH from underneath the hood but the other one, underneath the battery is a little more difficult.
I think those with skinny arms can reach.
Hmmmmmmm..........
Anyone's thoughts on reaching these guys without taking out the battery. If you have to do that, how does it effect the alarm, etc.
Oh man !?
 |
| They can both be reached from above without removing anything but your wrist watch (and if you do disconnect the battery, you will have to re-enter the security code on your radio). |
Gonna have to get my hands in there..............
| In the manual, it says to remove a screw on the light from the front grille and install from there.... |
Have we all decided on the PIAA 9006 yellow. Let's go for it guy's. I'm also for a nice deep yellow. Did we get that info yet.
P.S. Getting ready to take the plunge on some 19" chromes!! |
I think I can set something up for those...Let me know how many people want them and I will get a price.
Ron |
Ron:
Do you know, or could you find out if the PIAAs are a nice dark yellow color ?! Anyone else ?
I'm definitely in ! |
| I'm still in for a group buy on the yellow fogs. I'm still waiting for info from AutoCarParts.com. They are looking into it. Will keep you advised... |
Agreed! I've love a group buy but want only the true, deep yellow bulbs.

Have we received any more info concerning these lights. I am ready to purchase. Are we doing the group thing??? Are these Pia's that nice "dark yellow"????? Please let me know.
I'm waiting too find out too........
:) |
Received another email from AutoCarParts.com and they are still researching the dark yellow bulbs for me. Will advise as soon as I hear from them.
Anyone else have a suggestion or resource for these?
Does anyone have yellows in their fog lights? |
| I'd be interested in the yellow fogs also. What would the cost be with the group discount? |
Please tell me what the advantage is in yellow vs. white. Don't get a lot of fog, etc. in Austin, Texas, but I assume it's a visibility issue.
carldharris |
| They may have slightly better visiblity in fog but the truth is, just like the Razos...they "look cool" |
| Cool, I emailed http://www.autofreak.net back in November and finally they got the PIAA ion yellow in for the 9006 bulbs. I will be ordering those. |
| I was shopping at a local specialty auto parts store and saw a display for PIAA bulbs- have seen the ion yellow bulb and they are indeed a nice amber color, not the neon yellow/green of some yellow bulbs. Again, this was a display, and not on an actual vehicle, but IMHO they looked GOOD !! Add me to the list for a group buy if they offer a discount!!! |
| This is my first post and I would like to join the group's purchase. Beside looking cool...what are other benefits of the yellow fog lights? Thanks! |
I know I read somewhere that yellow foglights provide better visibility through fog compared with white.
Ron: Price? |
| I'd be in too but want to see the price. |
| Well, so far my source hasn't been able to locate the PIAA Ion bulbs. Has Ron had any luck with a group buy? |
I am still trying to get a price on the PIAA bulbs for the group order.. I need to know about how many pair thou.
The last 2 sets are sold and We will probably see pics. and review on them soon.
One set was shipped to rvehock yesterday and AcuraTL is going to pick up the other set..
Ron |

This is so funny, it happens that I know Ron from a few years back. He is a really great guy with very good prices. I used to hang out at his shop everyday after school. I'll be seeing Ron real soon, cuz I am gonig to pick up those bulbs and take some pictures and let you all see how good it'll look.

Got my PIAA 9006 Fog Lights in the mail today. I will install them and take some pics tonight. They will be posted in the AM.

| I have posted three pictures in the gallery. |
Looks good to me! The true color really shows up on the garage wall. Do you like the look rvehock?:?:
Hey, Ron..I'm in! |
| I like them very much, they look really good when your on the road at night. They will definitly come in handy here in Florida (lots of morning fog). |
Ron:
I WILL DEFINTELY take a pair of those bad *ss yellow PIAA 9006 foglights.
Keep me informed via email of price, shipping dates, etc.
Once again, I saw the pictures in the gallery and I love the color. Especially the way it shows up on the garage wall. NICE !!!
How easy are they to put in and how do you put them?
I heard 2 different ways. Which way is the easiest?
I DO NOT want to disconnect my battery.
Please post.
| Installing these lights is very simple. The driver side is a little tight but I did not have to remove the battery. They are both within reach from the engine compartment. They came in handy today as we got at least 2 inches of heavy rain and that yellow beam cut through the heavy rain better than my wifes 3.2 TL HID's!!! |
The easiest way is to remove a nut on the side with an extension ratchet and the whole fog assembly will come out. When I did it last time, it took me 2 minutes each side from start to finish.
I'll be going to Ron's shop tomorrow to pick up mine :D |
Ron, I would like some too. Could you e-mail the specifics ie: cost how to pay etc.
Thanks! |
1 pair for me.

Hi all,
I am sorry to tell you that I can't get any better pricing for the group buy on these because they don't bring these in as big of a quantity as the Razos. So it will be $80 shipped if you want them. Let me know.
Thanks,
Ron |
Ron:
I believe they are $95 on http://www.autofreak.net with UPS shipping. That's still $15 in savings if I get them from you!!
Count me in !
Email me with the details.

I just searched that entire website and they do NOT have the Yellow Ion foglight bulbs by PIAA.
Just some 411 I found:
Yellow Ion Crystal(PIAA):
"...A proprietary coating applied to a bulb or lens that transforms the light output to amber with much higher efficiency than conventional amber colored lenses."
I'm all for the PIAAs.
They are the best. |
| I second that, they really look good on the road and put out a very wide and even beam. |
| Ron - do you want us to individually e-mail you a confirmation order? How did you want to handle this? |
Ron, again, I can help you out if you want.
Members, just send an email to groupbuy@acuramdx.org and I will handle it from there.

| I just picked up mine from Ron at his shop yesterday. I put them on and DAMN, very nice yellow beam....very bright also. To the people who are ordering from Ron, when you get them, drive in a dark street and turn on and off your fog lights. You'll see how big of a difference they make. They actually look brighter than the Razo low beams. |
| My first post. Please count me in on the Fog Light Bulbs. Also if poss I would like a set of the Razo Premium White Bulbs. My MDX was ordered 3/6/01 so I probably have some time, but I will take them when available. Thanks Al |
Admin, thanks for the offer. But I had more than 12 sets of Razo left after we send them to people who still wanted them. I guess some people changed their mind and some people actually cancel their order of the MDX. So this time, I will only order after I have recieved the payment. The bulbs are not in stock at the moment but they should be in next week.
If you want a pair you can Paypal me the $80 or you can pay by credit card over the phone.. If you do want to pay over the phone, please email me the shipping address first.
I guess I will take the orders until end of next week.
Thanks,
Ron
P.S. Still have a few more sets of those RAZOs if anyone still need them.. |
Ron
I'll take a pair of those RAZOs. Please let me know how to contact you by phone so we can proceed.
Thanks |
| What are the RAZO's running a pair? And are these the lows, or the highs? Any shipping discount for buying both? :) |
Hi Ron,
Please provide contact information so I can order the PIAA 9006 foglights for my MDX..... :-)
Thanks,
-Tarun |

I received my PIAA Ion fog bulbs from Ron, yesterday. It took about 2 minutes to install them. The lights cut thru the fog very well and the golden color is a nice compliment to the bright white Razos - THEY LOOK AWESOME! (I really didn't like the look of the standard off-white fog lights with the bright Razo low beams) THANKS RON!
The rest of you ought to check them out. The total cost for both the Razo low beams and the PIAA Ion fogs are about $155-160 delivered - well worth it! They give the vehicle a really nice look. Get Ron to hook you up, I understand he has a surplus of both. :D :D :D |
D*mn...did I miss the train ?!?!?!?!?!
Ron: any of the PIAAs left that I can buy from you?
Please let me know.
Thanx !
:D |

Where have YOU been? You started this thread back in March. I'm sure Ron has filled all his orders by now. I got mine over a week ago! (They look REALLY NICE!!)
Maybe you should email Ron directly and see if he has any more. (Snooze, you loose!) Good Luck! :D :D :D |

Hey Guys,
I had a pair of Piaa saved for our moderator A4L.
We also got some more Piaa bulbs in.. But we are out of the Razo 9006 until next week.
Thanks,
Ron |

See...Ron has love for me...he put them aside just for me !!
Thank you sooooo much Ron...YOU'RE the man !!!!
I've had a huge presentation that I was working on for my job this past week or so and I just presented today !! All went well !!!
I'm going to paypal the money to Ron, but I need to know how much to send him?
Ron: How much?
Can't wait !!!
:D
Still did not fix my MDX from the accident yet.....hate looking at her all "hurt." SOON ! I'll give her PIAAs to "cheer" her up !!

Ron's the man!
I know you'll like them. They look so much better than the standard off-white fogs. Sorry to hear about your accident. The yellow fogs will make her feel better :)
ohmygod! - 1 more post and I'm a "senior"! |

There! Now that I'm a "senior", do I qualify for a discount at McDonalds??

LOL !
Anyone know the price of the PIAAs so I can paypal Ron ASAP!
$80 ?!?!?!?
I need the price confirmed before I send.
I want those bad boyz in my MDX soon !!!! |
| I checked my receipt, and Ron charged me $80.00 even, including shipping. |
Ron just emailed me and confirmed $80, I Paypal'ed him the cash....now just have to wait for these bad boyz to come.
Did you guys/gals say that you install them by lifting the hood and just reaching down or another way?
What is the easist way?
New bulbs.....new bulbs......new bulbs......
| Just open the hood, reach in and twist out the bulbs (but don't TOUCH the glass!! - I used latex gloves) The only tricky part is getting between the battery and the front radiator braces on the driver's side - just roll up you sleeves and squeeze your arm through (unless you have large arms, it's not too hard) Should only take a few minutes! |

I have long arms....but I do remember noticing that it is tight by the battery.
I'll use latex gloves, GREAT IDEA !!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Is the "Plastic Man" route any easier than removing the single screw holding the fog light assembly in and accessed through the front grill? This is the way the owner's manual says to do it. Just wondering. |
Hmmmmmmmmmm...................?!
You guys tell me. |
Does anyone have the Razo high beams? Ron mentioned on the phone that about 50% are getting them, which means, of course, that 50% are not.
Does anyone have comments, pro or con, for retrofitting the Razo Hi's?
Got the lo's and the PIAAs from Ron last week. Ron's company is easy to work with, offers the bulbs at a fair price, and I would recommend them to anyone interested in the Razos and/or PIAAs!
;)

I'm not sure, but from under the hood, it's almost as easy to switch the fogs as it is to do the low beams. :D |

I just ordered the fogs from Ron - don't have them yet.
This weekend I did a dry run under the hood. My arms are plenty long enough to reach the bulb assembly, but I'm right-handed and can't see a thing when I get there. The whole touchy-feely thing makes me nervous. When I get my bulbs, I'll do it the way the manual says to and report on how it goes. |
| The easiest way to see what you're doing is to use a droplight. :D |
My PIAAs are on their way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANX RON !!!!!
:D |
I installed mine this past weekend. I pulled the foglights out like the manual just to see if it is easier. Yes it is very easy. I've done it the other way, reaching in from under the hood, also easy. But if you take the housing out to do it, it is a lot harder to mess anything up..ie accidentally touching the glass, etc.
I remember AcuraTL did it this way a while back but I was too lazy to go get the tool out to do it that way.. but it is worth it. :-)

Received my PIAAs yesterday and installed them last night.
Very simple....lifted the hood and reached in. The one by the battery was tight. I scratched my arm up nice !
They look great. Like a whitish/yellow.
I'm getting the MDX fixed tomorrow too.
Everything will be done, and she'll be looking pretty again by the end of the week. |
| Got my yellow fogs from Ron last night and put them in today according to the book - piece of cake. Took about 5 minutes. You'll need a 10mm socket and a 6-inch extension to remove the retaining screw with ease. Can't wait for a little fog to try them out. |
My MDX is officially fixed and she is looking GREAT with the new PIAA foglight bulbs.
My foglights are ON regards of fog or not.
They ROCK ! |
I ordered mine and they're supposed to be here any day (I'm hoping today). After reading about everyone else's now I can't stand it that I don't have mine yet!!!!!
Like I said, Hopefully today.
| Me too ron. I hope to see both set of bulbs soon! I want my bulbs shift from "Coming Soon" to "self-installed"! |
Greetings, I will be recieving the Razo's back in today or tomorrow.. We will ship them out as soon as we recieve them.
The bad new is we are not getting the big quantity discount anymore. So we will have to charge $70 for the Razo from now on. It only apply to new orders. People who ordered and are waiting for them will still get them at the old group buy price.
Piaas are still $80. and we have them in stock.
I just found out that the Piaas will work as High Beams too. What do you think? Yellow High Beam better than White?
Thanks.
Ron
Thanks ron, I received my Razos and PIAA. The Razos were a snap to install - pop the old one out and put the new bulb in. I have to say, they look GREAT and makes the MDX look very classy.
Does anyone know exactly how I can pop the foglights off? I see the screw but I guess I need a wrench extension (what size screw??). If I do get the extension, I am afraid that the nut will fall down into the grill and I will not be able to find it. Or if you can direct me to the thread on this board, I would appreciate it. Thanks. |
I got my Razzo and PIAA's today and installed as well. Check the owners manual. It shows how to remove the fog lights. You just have to remove that one screw (10mm). And yes, I did use an extension. I was just careful not to drop the screw. (I actually only unscrewed the fog light on the driver's side, you can reach the fog light on the passenger side.)
I agree that the new lights make the car look classy. |
Ron, THANKS!, I received the Razo's & PIAA's this week. I installed them yesterday in about 15 minutes. They look AWESOME! I too removed the fogs with a 10mm socket and 8" extension. For those concerned about dropping the screw while removing it, if you do drop it, just remove the fog assembly and you now have easy access to the area when the screw would likely fall (I actually did drop one).
Thanks again Ron,
Dan

| I am so glad that most of you are getting the Razo low beams and Piaa fogs. It rocks, doesn't it? I am so glad that I did it.....remember who was the guinea pig :D |

Thanx Acuratl......I got the Razo & PIAAs too !
They rock together !

| Received my PIAA's from ron today and put them in last night. Installed them from the top only because I knew it would take more time trying to recover the screw when I dropped it ,then to put in the light. Question... there was an additional set of rubber O-rings in the package (beefier) and the instructions enclosed showed how to switch the ring (easy). Problem is with my limited understanding of Japanese (zero) I don't know in what applications you need to use the larger O-ring, the instructions were only in Japanese. The bulbs fit, but now I am concerned the seal might not be as tight as it should. Did anyone swap the O-rings? I could not find any mention of it in any of the threads. Can anyone enlighten me? |
I initially tried one of the PIAA's with the pre-installed o-ring and it felt rather loose, so I changed the o-ring and it was nice and tight. I proceeded to replace the o-ring on the second PIAA as well.

Exactly my impression. I'll change both to the thicker O-ring. Thanks for your help.
