I originally started a GB of spoiler from trimking1 on eBay in another thread (http://acuramdx.org/forums/showthre...=&threadid=9074) but have found more vendor/information as members discussed about it. Now I have found a manufacturer of these aftermarket MDX spoiler, they are called Texas Dar (http://www.texasdar.com). As far as I know, they are the supplier to websites such as www.spoilerdepot.com, www.spoiler4less.com, etc. These are factory mold spoilers made of fiberglass, painted with DuPont paint, and have a 3yr warranty.
I talked to a salesperson at Texas Dar and told him that we have a few members on this site that are interested in purchasing a spoiler and here's the price break down from him on a GB:
$114.40 raw, unpainted
$199.50 painted to matching factory color
worst case shipping of $23 (via UPS, coming from Texas)
if you do a search on "spoilerdepot" on this site, you'll find a few posts with related information. i know a few members have purchased from spoilerdepot.com and they are happy with it. if you do a search for spoilerdepot on google.com, you'll find quite a few links with reviews as well.
i'm in for one painted. please reply to this thread letting me know you are in so i can count the number of people, because i don't know how to check poll results. i believe a count of 5 will get this GB started, i'll check with Texas Dar for better pricing if we have a lot more than 5 people interested. thanks.
btw, for people that are interested in purchasing from trimking1, someone please take over the the thread i mentioned above and collect the names and so everyone can give him a call. i'll be happy to help if you need any contact information.

| i'm in, but i want to know if the raw spoiler is the same color as the factory when raw. |
|
|
| henry_atwork |
kingt,
yes they do ship to AFO/FPO address.
slash007,
the raw, unpainted one is in "primed grey" color meaning it's primed and ready for paint if necessary. i don't know what acura puts on their spoiler that comes in black.
for others, please call John at 1-888-556-2301 and let him know your paint code (should be on the side of your driver side door i think), can someone with a MBP share this paint code as i don't have my vehicle yet.

Okay...I still new to the whole MDX thing and loving it one day at a time. I just purchased a '03 MDX w/Nav/RES and wanted to know what are the benefits of this rear spoiler or deflector?
And if I bought one of these through this group buy - is it easy to install?
Henry - where are you in the bay area. I live in the san Jose area - maybe we can connect some time.
Thanks guys... |

okay everyone, thanks for all the replies. i've just made my call this morning to John and placed my order for a MBP painted spoiler, John told me it should arrive next Wednesday, oh i can't wait! :D
now the question is To Drill or Not To Drill. i have seen pictures/instruction on here but i'm rather hesitant on drilling a $40k+ car ...
FUNSUV,
i live in Newark, let me know when you want to meet up, so far i've only met 1 MDX owner. :)

| I just got off the phone with John from Texas Dar (1-888-556-2301). I ordered my painted spoiler in Sandstone Metallic. He was very knowledgeable and great to work with. It sounds like they have a high quality painting process to match the factory paint colors precisely. He's getting us a great deal @ $199 + shipping for a painted spoiler. He said it should ship in 2-3 days. Just mention this web site and he'll get you hooked up with a new spoiler for your X. :4: |

I received my spoiler yesterday from Texas Dar. Had the day off today so I couldn't wait to put it on. It was wrapped well and had a very nice finish - seems to match the factory sandstone metallic quite well. Using the supplied strips, I placed it on the rear lid and eyeballed it into place. I then measured many times to get it into exactly the right place. The hard part is trusting your measurements and driling into your new $40K vehicle. After drilling the holes I used some clear silicone and screwed it into place using the supplied hardware. I think the quality of the spoiler is very good and it really enhances the MDX look and is a nice styling touch IMO.

What kind of measurements? I thought the holes in the hatch are marked; those inverted dimples. |

oh btw, john didn't know the exact shipping charge when i placed the order. i just got a chance to check my CC statement and the total for this painted spoiler, including shipping is $218.65. left TX and came to northern CA in about 1wk. :29:

It looks good~~~
Now it is time to get wife to agree on it.. :D |

DaleB -
On the spoiler installation, the holes lined up almost perfectly to the dimples on the hatch lid. The spoiler includes some 'strips' that you slide into the holes in the spoiler and then tape down to the hatch lid to mark the hole locations. Then you use a small bit to make pilot holes. I think due to small individual part differences and the spoiler being molded of fiberglass, two of the pre-drilled holes in my spoiler were slightly offset from the middle of the dimples. I just wanted to make doubly sure before breaking out the drill !!
BTW Henry, thanks for finding and negotiating the group buy from Texas Dar.

Anyone know how long these prices will be valid.
Just got my 03 Sage Brush Pearl MDX and the old pocket book need a bit of recovery time before I can think of buying accessories. But I do want to get a spoiler eventually. |

Thanx! Color looks great! What is the Strip ?
What is your MBP's color code? just want to check it with mine. |
|
|
| henry_atwork |
talked to John today, the price is good til end of month.
zafer, my MBP code is B518P.
the strip, according to the instruction provided, is to help you locate the hole to drill on the tailgate. so basically, you put these strips into one of the hole on the spoiler, position the spoiler, tape down the strips, remove the spoiler, then if you are drilling from the outside of the tailgate then you would know where to drill. according to AKFlyer, it seems like the hole on the spoiler is just a slight offset from the middle of the dimple that's provided on the interior the tailgate. i went out to the car and took some rough measurements tonight and they seem okay. i'll find out this weekend.

i finally received my texas dar rear air deflector after waiting 3 weeks.
couldn't wait to install it.
they have what appear to be generic installation instructions and plastic markers to use, but the installation process involves alot of eye-balling, approximating and trying to judge the "perfect" location.
although i was able to install it in the correct location i was very nervous when i finally took the drill to the sheetmetal.
i am very happy with the end result. the color matches well and the quality is great.
if anyone is set to install them and would like some tips, let me know.
regards,

I just got mine RedRock Pearl from Texas DAR this week, opened it today to try to install it. But there was no instruction at all and also don't have the strip mentioned by others on this board.
I suppose it shouldn't be too big of a deal to install without any instructions, after all, we have had pretty thorough descriptions on this board.
Can some one please just check their instruction and let me know what size drill bits do I need? Thanks a lot. |

Remember their instructions are not model specific. They cover all their models. I did not bother with the T Strips myself, and the alignment was fine. One hole was off slightly but it was not enough to cause problems. |

Finally got it installed this morning. It took more than an hour because on mine, the holes doesn't line up very well. It was not easy lining up to decide where to drill the holes. The paint work looks great and match my RedRock perfectly.
Now that it is done, I don't think I will be brave enough to take anything else that requires this much measuring. My suggestion to those who haven't installed it yet is to drill one side and then really double check and tripple check before they drill the other side.
And now the question is, should I be installing side steps myself?... |

YES YES YES!!!! This one will be easier than install the rear deflector. (At least you don't need to drill any holes :2: ) |

I know this might be off the topic but.....
Last weekend I installed my rear spoiler that I bought through the group buy. I didnt have too much trouble installing the spoiler, but when I opened my hatch the other day and I found these little rust dots on my rear bumper and along the inside of the rear pillars. I'm thinking that it's metal dust resulting from drilling that got rusted from the rain. I guess I didn't do a good job of removing all the metal dust after installing the spoiler.
Can anybody tell me the best way to remove those rust spots without damaging the paint?
Any input would be appreciated.
