| I have ordered an 03 MDX Tour Nav and believe that a running board would add to the trim package that is being added. F. Flares, Front lower trim, side molding and rear air def. However, the question I have is if running board have advantages then what are the disaadvantages for example when you get out and the running board is dirty then does it stick out far enough that your clothes would rub against it? The Volvo XC-90 which I test drove has that problem in fact it is also a shin getter when entering the vehicle. You might ask why I choose the MDX over the XC-90? Try getting into the back 2nd and 3rd row seating. However it is a nice vehicle. The X has it beat in several catagories. |

| :) the MDX doors have a small "flap" that extends below the door protecting you from the grunge. If you install steps, you defeat its purpose in the steps will collect the grim and expose your pants to it unless you're very careful to step wide unpon exit |

| IMO, I find the MDX running boards as being perfect as not being too big or too small. I can either step around it or step on it. For people with shorter legs, it is also a non issue as they use it all the time and do not really worry about brushing their pants on the boards. If you want to see the big running boards, look at the Durango and the old Navigators, those running boards are huge and extend out from the car quite a bit. |

The running boards do stick out far enough to mark your trousers with slush, snow, etc. You learn to adjust to either stepping out a bit further or to actually stepping on the running board. (Note: These are really slippery running boards, not sure why, but be sure to be hanging on to something cause they can really catch you by surprise... Doesn't help when your teenage son armor-all's the darn things.)
The real function of the running boards is for us folks who live in the north where they use salt on the roads. They really help keep the lower part of the bodyside from being constantly bathed in that wonderfully corrosive salt spray! If it wasn't for this, I probably wouldn't have added the RB's since the MDX is low enough where I (read my wife) could get in without. Conversely, running boards were a real necessity for climbing into our old Expedition... |
