We run Dodge Dakaota (98) in my wifes business and it is about time to get a new one. I really like the syling and the truck is great too with the V8, not to big.

The new RAMs are also ugly and they match the front of the Durango here. I was afraid of that. They are all going for this sort of Transformer look ala the new Chevy trucks etc. instead of the classic Art Decco look of the current Dodge line.

This should go down to 'what were they thinking'. They must not get why PT Cruisers etc were selling like hotcakes.

Way ugly!!!

What is with all the new cars with the fugly front fascia. The Audi cross over has it, now the Durango. Hopefully the new MDX will stay true to its color.

Looks like the Durango took too many steroids. Yucko!

the ugly snout on this thing is consistent with dodge's current trend.

they are trying to set themselves apart by creating a common design them...grotesquely oversized from the a pillar forward.

they will continue to attract the dodge faithful but will fail to attract converts from gm, ford.

they seem to have already succeeded in giving everyone on this forum a good laugh...LOL! just like the collective laugh that can be heard around the world in their competitors design studios.

what a shame.

Well, style is definetly in the eye of the beholder. Frankly, I like the big, bold front of the Durango (and others like the Aviator and Escalade). And personally, I can't stand the PT Cruiser. Yuck.

But of course, the reason I own an MDX is a) the interior and b) its not american. Don't really think any of these grills could make me change my mind on that one.

What do you mean the new Ram is ugly????? I love the styling, best looking truck in town I've ever saw, even better than the Toyota Tundra.

Umm... not to rain on anyone's parade, but I, firstly do not like the styling of the new (2004) Dodge Durango. I find its proportions too bulbous and ginormus, and the front fascia seems to overpower the whole vehicle. The front fascia does seem to represent their (Dodge's) new "Grab Life By the Horns" motto -- this is the bull, but you're gonna need to kick out the MDX to move it :D if we can even manage to move that tank of a vehicle. The engines they stick in Durangos are monsters -- the V6 is alright -- but there is a V8 which seems like... overkill, which I find on the current model. On the new model, it will probably have like a V10. This truck is plainly too blod for me. I find several american-branded vehicles are rather boldly styled -- but, it is more substance and suttle, bold looks, but a nice presentation -- what you see in an MDX, which I will use as comparison, since, this is its website, and, personally I like the MDX more or less as the best all-rounder car avaliable, which I like right now... it's presentation is bold, making a statement, but it is the way it is shown -- it is then shown in a nice, fancy package, which is asthetically pleasing. When you look at those pictures, you can clearly see the bold styling, but where is the thought to integrate it into the body, to coincide harmoniously, to make something which is nice to look at -- not this superimposing brute of a vehicle, which looks rather ugly in my opinion, with its blunt styling. This reminds me of Chevrolet's new edge on marketing for versatility -- the Avalanche, Trailblazer (although it does gain some credit for its... not so outrageous styling...) and the nightmare for Pontiac, the Aztec. These offered utility, but no appearance advantages. While you are getting more truck from the Durango, which will be probably, I guess, similarly priced to an MDX, I don't really know, but I would go for the MDX any day...

I know some people will buy this truck, and, when I reach the age to hold a valid liscense, I will be sure to steer clear of behemoths like these, but, certain people have actual uses for vehicles of this size. There will even be some people who like its styling, and find it asthetically pleasing, and the MDX to be a rather unimposing vehicle. I can respect that... but I still have my personal favourite I will remain faithful to.... I'd rather not grab life by the horns, I'd rather be built with purpose, driven by passion (For those who don't know what I'm talking about, and are beginning to think I'm completely insane, I assure you, I am not! (really) this is simply the catch phrase deely Dodge and Acura have, respectively.)

This is simply my two cents, and I respect everyone's opinion of stylistic choices and their veiws toward automobiles of various shapes and sizes, and their appearance and imprint on our global society and on our environment. I would rather drive a vehicle like the MDX which does get more than one mile to the gallon. :D Just kidding. The Durango's gotta be better than that, or else we need Iraq more than we can even dream... but that's a whole other topic.

Anyone see the news proram about how the front wheels ball joints wear out and the wheel comes off? Scarry...

"Their view is in a cost-benefit ratio," says Claybrook. "It's cheaper to let these circumstances happen. A few people get killed, and they don't have to pay for all the replacement parts."
evoge
Yup, exactly right. Like I said in the other Durango comparison thread, a coworker's Durango had major $$$ components replaced on a regular basis because they were designed to fail--just another warranty cost to Chrysler instead of getting it right the first time.
