Best current interest rate? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Well, the dealer tells me that the American Honda 3.49% for 60 months deal is over, and I have an MDX coming in end of January/beginning of February.

What is the best interest rate available from American Honda?

And does anyone have a recommendation for a financial institution that has an interest rate in the 3.something % range?

The best I have found so far, with minimal looking, is 4.75% from Omni American Credit Union.

I am putting $20,000 down, and have good credit. I qualified for the 3.49% deal last month. I am looking for a 60 month term on a 2003 model year vehicle.

I talked to the dealership today, and they said they had stuff in the 3% range. The only way I can get them to beat it is to have a competitive bid.

Any one have a good deal to recommend? I am in the Dallas Fort Worth area, but internet institutions, if legitimate, are OK too.

Thanks,
Steve

Surely someone here can add some useful information...

I purchased my 03' X last weekend and the 3.49% from Honda/Acura is definately gone. I did some shopping around on the internet and the best I was able to find was ~4.4-4.5%. Try some of the following - bankrate.com, Chase, E-Loan, Capital One.
My Acura dealer was willing to shop around for me and they were able to secure 4.2% @60 months from Bank of America. I went ahead and took it. Oh yeah, the finance manager did not forsee the 3.49% from Honda coming back anytime within the year. They said it was done solely to entice buyers over the slow holiday buying season.

I have seen 4.69% at my credit union. The dealer has said that they can get around 4.5% from two different sources (Bank of the West and I think Chase).

My dealer called today about me using Peoplefirst at 4.89%. He said if my credit was good, he could give me 4.29% through Chase. I faxed him my credit info which came back at a 795 which qualifies me for the best rate.

Of course, that remains to be seen at delivery time which is 10-14 days away. I'm prepared to walk if they play funny business on the rate once I get there.

Try a home equity loan. The interest is tax deductable. Rates should be about 4.5%

Hi Crmsnidol:
I to am looking for interest rates as I am going to pick my X up tomorrow and finance about $12,000.I'm upset after seeing you got a 795 rating mine came back at 755.I'm jealous! I must not own enough stuff. How the hell do they come up with the rating. The sales manager told me the best rating is an 800 and he RARELY sees that. The best %rate he claims he can get me is 4.9.I'll show him some of these posts. It sounds like he isn't trying hard enough.
He did tell me that the feds were really watching the home equity loans this year and if you use it to buy a car ,the're going to go after you.I guess they will try and match large car purchases with home equity loans. He got a memo yesterday from somebody warning of this.

- We have about $100,000 in equity on our house. 14 years left on it after refi last year.
- Been with my company for 10 years
- Never been late on a payment and only paid ANY interest on cards for the first time last year
- Currently have no car payments
- Have a very small amount carrying over each month on 1 CC
- Have a small HELOC but paying each month on it (NO, none of it will be used for car - planning on a pool in the Spring)

He didn't even pull my wife's numbers whose I'm sure are higher than mine due to me being the primary on all cards and loans and thus taking a small hit with inquiries.

I told my dealer I was going with peoplefirst at 4.89. He asked if i would use him if he was at the same % and I said I wouldn't without it being a substantial enough difference. Remember, I don't have the loan yet so he could just be saying this to get me into his dealership empty-handed and take whatever rate he offers me instead. I'll get a cashier's check from peoplefirst and go back later if that's the case.

I pretty much have the same profile with NO debt other than the house. When I picked up my X today the sales manager said anything over 750 was golden and if the credit app. was put in again it would come out different.I am still amazed over this process.
Damn!!! I have an Ex.membership at Costco and didn't even think of checking on it.Knowledge IS truely Power.I can't get hurt to bad though at 4.9% since I only financed $12,000.
I was offered the Honda extended warranty for $1400 and change 7/75,000 or 7/100,000 for $1800 and change. The SM said it was going to be more the longer I waited but I declined it.I'll deal with that later however I'm leaning towards it due to all the bells and whistles this X has.My wife was somewhat passive about the process until the Navi started talking to her and now they're best friends and I will have to help her come up with a name for the X now. That will be in between martinis tonite. The book that comes with the Navi is pretty thick.I hope we're smart enough to figure the damn thing out.
I'm just glad I'm home tonite with the X safely tucked in the garage. It was a ***** making this thing all work out ,but its DONE.

Congratulations on your purchase. Mine should be in within the next 2 weeks and I'm financing around $35000 so I need all the help I can get with the interest rate.

For those of you who received the 3.49% through AHFC, did you ask your dealer about it, or was it offered to you?

I'm extremely upset because I took delivery of my MDX on November 29, when they had the 3.49% special rate and the dealer didn't tell me anything about it. I'm thinking that he was just a bit too greedy and wanted to get us to finance through Chase which pays the highest commission rates.

I went back to the dealer to see if I can get the 3.49% because when I specifically asked if there were ANY special rate offers through Honda/Acura, he said "no". Since then, he's been telling me how the finance guy is away from his desk or that he has to ask him about it.. three times I have gone back to hear the same response.

What do you guys think? I'm about to be fed up - I think I might call Acura directly and try to deal with this.

Thanks for any advice you guys can share.
-Brian.

If you are unable to get resolution directly, make sure they are aware that you will be filing a complaint with your local Better Business Bureau and with Acura Client Services.

Brian,

What dealer did you use? It's good to know for the rest of us in NJ.

I'm taking delivery early next month. Dealer told me that Honda may come back with the 3.49% special, but he said if they didn't, he can get 4.25% anyway so not a big deal.

Who was the 4.25 with???? I was offered 4.9 yesterday, but told him I knew of the 4.5 from Bank of the West and within three minutes we were at 4.5. I have until probably this weekend, so I'm REALLY enjoying this thread!

I think it's a special rate that they get with Chase. This has happened twice to me before, I'll get the best internet interest rate, they ask me what it is, and they always beat it by at least a half a point.

Park Avenue Acura.

I'm going back tomorrow to finalize things. If they can't give me an answer and solution, then I'm calling Acura directly. I'm fed up.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

I initially spoke with Marek Puk at Park Avenue but ended up closer to my home.

I was quoted by the dealer 4.69% today for 60 months. They didn't think the Honda 3.49% rate was coming back anytime soon. Still seems a bit high to me.
Teledatageek
New rate of 4.59% for 60 months just quoted. Seems reasonable based on the fact that I'm putting nothing down, actually financing more than the vehicle to cover my old vehicle loan.

Thoughts anyone?
crmsnidol
I just picked up my car today and got 4.29% from Chase through the dealer.
