| Who's interested in a group purchase of an extended warranty package? Can we do this?((Terms...etc...decided later)) |
|
|
|
| When I take delivery of the MDX, (within 30 days) I will be interested in the maximum extended warranty with no deductible...depending on $$ and available packages. |
|
|
|
We will also consider an Extended warranty. Cars are becoming so complicated nowadays (VTM-4 for example) that fixing them can become very expensive.
I can live with a small deductible (e.g. $50). Obviously the warranty cost should not be too prohibitive. I've had two dealers give me an approximate cost of $2000 for an extension to 100K miles. Anything more than about $2K for anything less than 10 years/100K miles we may skip on. |

|
I can beat the pants off of that :D
I'll get a quote on the extended warranties (obviously Acura Care) that I sell, and post them here in the next couple of days. |

That would be TERRIFIC! :D
I couldn't believe it when my local friendly dealer told me witha straight face that their 6 yr. 100k extended warranty was over $2500. I actually laughed in the salesman's face and told him they must not think much of that vehicle's reliability! (Either that, or they think I'm a fool - so I appreciate the opportunity, with your assitance to prove them wrong.)

Tim,
Please, get us a quote w/Zero deductible too! After about 10+ warranty service issues on my current Blazer, I have come to appreciate ZERO deductible. The following link only charges approximately $225 add'l for zero deductible 7/100,000. I don't know if the $1,820 (inc. 0 deductible) is a good price. I'd like to buy out of state to avoid the 7.5 tax clip, if possible. http://acurawarranty.com/SLX_pricing48.htm
Then there's this one, and I have no idea if it's legit.http://www.stoneage.com/common/new_...FTOKEN=10868536 |

When I looked into the extended warranty coverage from warranty direct they expressly excluded the Navi unit and screen. I don't know if the Acura extended warranty covers this or not...Tim could you confirm this? Otherwise the coverage from warranty direct seems very competitive. Of course for those without the Navi unit it doesn't matter but you may want to ensure that the standard screen is covered as it is probally very expensive to replace as would be the Navi unit and screen.

$1820 for 7yr/100k is the 48 Month Warranty Pricing, if we buy now or before 24 month/24k miles, we should look the 24 Month Warranty Pricing that is $1475,($1700 for 0 deductible).
This price is MRSP, purchase directly from Acura, we may get some discount from some dealer or group package. $2000 is overcharge.
I think the Acura Extended warranty(obviously Acura Care) is batter then others, if there is Acura Service near your place.

nycMDX & MDX-Hungry,
Your suggestion won't work for me. Warranty-Direct does not list Illinois as a coverage area and MDX-Hungry your family's choice does not cover GPS systems. In my case I am interested in an extended warranty that can be purchased before the end of the factory warranty period. But that's only my preference. |
|

I don't know about Acura dealers, but when I had my Exploder I researched 3rd party warranties. One of the problems with them is that when you take your car in for service, there is a period of time (any where from 1 to 4 days) where the service manager has to confirm and authorize the repair with the 3rd party warrantor, prior to performing any work on the vehicle. (Perhaps Tim can enpand upon his dealership's experience).
Sounds like HMOs. Perhaps "national car care" should be on President MiniMe's agenda. |
|
|
|
I remain 'open' to alternative warranty packages outside of Acura...but my inclination is toward some form of Acura warranty to be on the 'safe side'. Maybe Tim can take some of these existing "Acura warranties" and come up with an attractive package for u$??
At the same time, someone mentioned in another thread that AAA also had an extended warranty package. I have not checked that one out. |
|
|
|
Tim,
Do you charge sales tax on the Extended Warranty?
If not - is it a general rule, or for "internet sales" only?
I am also in NY, I would be very unhappy to pay extra $ 80-100.
Thanks and looking forward to your price quote. |

I've had the WarrantyDirect coverage on other vehicles and they have always been excellent to deal with on both ends of the deal.
Their coverage has also usually been the least expensive. I quered them on the nav system coverage and they indicated that if it was a factory installed system that is integral with the car, they would cover it.

If I can get a group buy of 20 people on acuramdx.org, I can do the 7/100K/0 ded. warranty for $1750, or $1850 if done on an individual basis. I'm told that this is an excellent price, I'm new in this arena.
Working for the dealer, I can vouch for some aftermarket warrranties being a royal pain in the rump, with what some cover and don't cover and trying to get approvals for warranty work to be done. With an Acuracare warranty, it is written the same as any ohter warranty claim for an Acura dealership but slightly different on submission. Bottom line, ask the dealer that you go to for service what he/she recommends. They are the ones that have to struggle for authorizations for warranty work, and the faster the paperwork goes through, the faster your your MDX makes it out of the shop and with a smaller or no repair bill to boot.
Be wary of those that are the cheapest, they usually present the worst headaches for the service department, and cover the least on your vehicle (watch the legalese on those aftermarket contracts, it can cost you plenty!!!). |

Tim,
Does the Acura extended warranty cover all that is in the standard warranty? I would guess that all the mechanical parts are covered but how about the electronics i.e. stereo, Navi unit, MFD display, etc?

Tim,
nice effort! I'll be looking into this, but I've never purchased one, even though I typically own the vehicle for 10-11 years.
Question- Do these warranties act like the one for the car, ie everything but tires is covered- ie radio, seat covers- leather tear specifically, bad window lift motor, and obvious drivetrain, brakes system (not normal pad wear)
Also, I don't live near a dealer but have local Authorized repair in my locality for Acura. Can he do the repair if necessary and do a have to go to Acura for ALL repairs?
Hope these aren't too off based questions.
TIA

Tim,
What will this extended warranty get me during the first 4 yrs/50,000 miles that the standard warranty doesn't cover? I'm really on the fence about an extended warranty, but my wife's Caravan keeps doing so many funky things that I'm beginning to seriously consider. My fear is that I'm going to plunk down $1750 and see no real benefit for 4 years.

Probably nothing. Good news when nothing goes wrong. It's more like insurance. Interesting what Tim might bring back.

Check http://acurawarranty.com/SLX_pricing24.htm
Never mind that it says "SLX" - they've updated the web site for MDX.
This is the arm of Springfield Acura in NJ.
You can also read the description of the AcuraCare contract - IT COVERS LESS THAN ORIGINAL BUMPER-TO-BUMPER warranty.
I do not think there are ANY benefits at all in the first 4 years or 50K miles. - Hope Tim will prove me wrong on this one.
IMHO, the "best" part of AcuraCare as opposed to 3rd party warranties is the continuation of the "Customer Service" - TLC. It is also transferrable, adding to your sale price if you decide to sell.
The "bad" part - Acura can most likely deny service if you do not follow their "suggestions" as to servicing your vehicle.
I still have nightmares about my Subaru dealer "Service Menu" - e.g. 25K Miles - replace this and that, check this and that for a "mere $750" :) and :-( at the same time.
BTW, their quote for 7/100/0-ded comes up to $1700 (on individual basis) C'mon, Tim, you can do better that that!!! :) |

I have extended warranties on my other 2 cars from http://www.warrantygold.com I can transfer it when I sell my Volvo. Luckily haven't used it yet, but my brother used it on his Lexus when he had problem with the ABS. The Lexus dealer called warrantygold with the estimate and they gave the OK to do the work and gave them their VISA number to charge to. My brother just paid the $50 deductile when he picked up the car. You can go to any service center you want including dealers, ie they won't make you go to some cheap shop for the work on your precious vehicle. They even cover NAVI with the diamond plan! http://www.warrantygold.com/coverage-diamond.asp
I don't work for them, I'm just a satisfied customer.

I think my decision (WHEN I GET MY TRUCK...aaaaaaahhhh) Will be...price...fine print contract comparisons ... and general acceptibility/service & perks, like rental cars, etc., at dealerships and/or other repair facilities. I'm wondering if they cover basically the same thing and or if there are major differences in basic coverage?
Next question...when do we have to purchase a warranty and does the extended warranty duplicate portions of the factory warranty?? Is the extended warranty purchase required within one year or when?? If I missed a post explaining all of this...link me. :) |

How's this.....7yr/100k/0 ded. Acuracare warranty....for $1650!
NOONE will be able to beat this. Any takers? :D |

Way to go Tim. :)
Sorry to be a pain in the ...., but can you also quote 7/75/0 ded?
With the way I drive, 20years/100K miles would make more financial sense for me. :)
Also, since your dealership and I both reside in the great Empire state, do you (actually, your Financial dept, I guess) charge tax on warranty purchase?
Thanks beforehand. |

Tim:
How about publishing a complete schedule of rates for the extended warranty. My guess is that we are all interested in different combinations of years/miles/deduct based on our individual driving habbits. I have been pricing extended warranties, and I would prefer to purchase from you if you can beat the other prices. Thanks. |

I have to say that I am not convinced that the Acura warranty is the best deal. As a comparison,
here is the WarrantyDirect prices for the MDX. One important difference to note is that the
time starts at the point where you buy the warranty, not when you buy the car.
Thus, you could get the 5 year, 150,000 mile warranty at 3 or 4 years in to
your ownership and it would then run for 5 years from that date for a total
of 8 or 9 years and 150,000 miles from the date that you bought the car.
I think this is a much better deal. Plus, you can take the vehicle anywhere you choose.
Note the prices quoted below are for Los Angeles area of southern California where shop rates are generally higher and might actually be lower for other areas of the country. They are currently running a promotion that gives you the zero deductible at no additional cost over the $50 deductible. This seems to be a promotion that they often run, by the way.
----------------------------------
Based on the information you provided, your car is still under the
original full factory warranty. Warranty Direct plans begin on the day
you buy them, not the original purchase date of the vehicle. For example,
if you buy a 7 year/100,000 mile plan today, it will expire 7 years from
the day you buy it or when your odometer reaches 100,000 total miles. You
may choose from our Diamond-bumper-to-bumper or Platinum plans which are
both quoted below.
--- 2001 Acura MD-X
Terms: Diamond Platinum
$50 Deductible $50 Deductible
3 Years 45000 Miles $600.00 N/A
4 Years 60000 Miles $725.00 N/A
5 Years 75000 Miles $1,000.00 $900.00
5 Years 100000 Miles $1,100.00 $1,025.00
5 Years 150000 Miles $1,475.00 $1,375.00
6 Years 60000 Miles $850.00 $800.00
6 Years 72000 Miles $1,000.00 $900.00
6 Years 100000 Miles $1,125.00 $1,050.00
7 Years 70000 Miles $1,025.00 $925.00
7 Years 85000 Miles $1,100.00 N/A
7 Years 100000 Miles $1,175.00 $1,100.00
Zero Deductible Add $75.00 Add $50.00 |

|
| Invest the money for 4 years. After 4 years, IF you have a problem use the money for repairs. If you don't have any problems, then you're just that much richer. Look at it this way, 3 extra years at around $600/year. Now are you willing to bet that you will be spending $600 per year on repairs? Not likely especially on an Acura. |
|

If you guys are interested in a good aftermarket warranty, I can beat those prices given as well, we do carry them. Unfortunately, no matter how you slice it, you do have to pay tax on it if you are a NYS resident....thank you George Pataki :(
Because it's tough for me in the parts end to get all of the questions and answers for everyone (I just don't know enough about them), it might be best for everyone to give me a call or email and discuss with me their particular warranty preference. I've made a commitment with our F&I people to get you the lowest price there is to be had on these packages. Try me, you won't be able to beat my prices. Now, whether or not you will need the warranty will depend on how you drive and how long you plan to keep your MDX. But I should mention that I have approval to offer the prices I'm at now only if there is demand, so I can't guarantee they will stay this low, or that I will be able to keep offering them in the future. So, those of you looking to buy, it might be a good idea to set something up soon. I had to really pull some strings on this one! |
|
|
|
Tim,
I'm better than mildly interested. But.. I don't have the MDX yet. I've been drooling trying to side what accessories I might get and will committ once I have a very firm committment from my dealer. Hopefully this will be in Early May. For the accessories I can jump a bit sooner. For the X Warr. I think I need to wait till I get the vehicle. With availability being tight AND this site growing rapidly, your demand shouyld likely go up as the days go by. Please keep this in mind with your offers- I like them!
BTW, I live in Mid-Michigan. I suspect using the warranty here is not an issue. |

Why not buy from your dealer? Mine quoted me something like $2500 for an additional three years, which sounded pretty fair. I think he told me that I could put it on at any time until the manufacturer's warrantee ran out. I figured I would take stock of the situation in four years, and make my decision then.
I would think there would be less hassle "cashing in" on a warrantee claim if it were through the dealer, probably less paperwork and loopholes. |

Crem,
U can get that extension, zero deductable to 7 years/100k, for about a grand less than that...Tim priced it out for everyone. You're correct -- you can do it anytime before the original warranty runs out, although I think the price goes up slightly as the car gets older and you approach the end of the original warranty. I agree that there's probably less weasel room w/an Acuracare warranty than with other aftermarket ones... |
|
|
|
I don't want to buy it from the dealer near me, because I don't like to give them my business. They really annoyed me when I was trying to buy an MDX, and I ended up buying one elsewhere in my state.
I'd buy one from Tim (hondacuraworld) in a heartbeat.

| I bought my Mdx from Courtesy Acura in Lexington, Ky. and at the time of purchase they offered to extend the warranty to 6/100/0 or $945. They also told me that this was refundable if the time expired and I did not use it, but that it was only available at the time of purchase. |
|
|
|
Man,
That sounds tasty. You get it back if you don't use it? So basically you loan them a grand for 5 years. Well, on second thought, if you're an average investor, getting 10%/year (pre tax, I know) you might be a breakeven. Interesting choice. |
|
|
|
If you are a high-mileage driver, that one is a no-brainer.
Pushing the warrantee out a couple years, and doubling the mileage is a great deal - all for the interest on a few bucks at purchase.
You would want to clarify with him that you would get a refund as long as you didn't use the warrantee between 4 and 6 years, and between 50 and 100K miles. (You should still get the refund if you use warrantee services in the 4/50K period.) |
|
|
|
| I did confirm the details with the sales manager and they all checked out fine, but unfortunatly I passed on the warranty. I wasn't too concerned with the refundable part since I figured that I would surely have some kind of trouble during those years, but I was impressed with the fact that it would double the miles for under a grand. |
