I barrowed this the other day and wow i was blown away!
Fantastic Fantastic movie! Great musical, romance, and lite comedy production!
I was expecting a so so hollywood movie but its the opposite! How they ever came to the idea of making the cast sing modern songs w/ the 1900's setting is totally new! plus the actors Kidman and McGrawger really sings! :) great movie

Talked with several people about this movie and their wasn't any tweeners. People either hated it or loved it. My wife and me pressed the stop button after 15 minutes. Glad you liked it.

I liked the music video featuring Lil' Kim, Pink, Christina Aguilera, and Mya.:D

I thought the costumes were fantastic and the sets and lighting were extraordinary. But, the story line and dialog I found to be completely over-the-top and tedious. I'd have to be on a 15 hour flight to Hong Kong and bored out of my wits before I'd watch it again. Glad you enjoyed it, Vic, but it's sort of like the music in the Gap: it's either loved and just the right level of LOUD or "turn it down!" annoying. (Obviously, I fall into the latter group!) :mblah:

With those 4, how can you go wrong?

Btw, the movie didn't do anything for me either.

Ditto. I remember being so excited to finally find it in stock at Blockbuster when it first came out. Then I turned it off after maybe 30 minutes. I don't think I've ever done that with a movie before MR. The camera-work, music, dialogue, etc. was "irritating" for some reason.

I liked Nicole and some of the music (sister soul) but couldn't sit through the whole thing. I am going w/Mrs. Bomo to see Chicago this weekend. Hope it's better. No offense but really chick flicks. Oh, and I dozed off during The Two Towers which every one I have talked to really liked. I am looking forward to Matrix Reloaded this summer.

I loved it. Granted some of the dialog was downright dumb, and the storyline was pretty marginal. But the staging was terrific overall, and the club scenes in particular were dynamite. My favorite segment was the young hero's first immersion into the nonstop madness of the club. The absinthe party was fun too given my history (ahem), and dancing from a balcony to rooftops out into the starry night sky was an imaginative idea really well executed.

And above all: Love!

I can't sit thru the promos (on HBO)! :16:

I agree with dmyles, what little I've heard & seen is totally irritating!

I too would say that there are no tweeners -- I also loved it. I saw it quite awhile ago and can only say that I've mentioned it many times as a very entertaining and enjoyable movie. I'd watch it again.

I liked the movie, but for some reason I like the soundtrack a whole lot more.

We had fun with the movie, it was campy and visual enough that I thought it was pretty entertaining - have to say I wasn't all that concerned about the plot. We'd just gotten a 16:9 format TV, it's dynamite on a large screen setup.

One of my favorites of the last 10 years, without question. Over-the-top? Yes. Campy? Perhaps. Original, creative, extravagant, moving, funny? And how! I think it's sheer originality makes it special. IMHO, there are just far too many "Hollywood" pictures out there and my faith in the talent of actors, directors, writers, etc. is renewed when a picture like this comes out.

BTW, if you like the movie, it is AWESOME in the MDX RES, whether you can see the screen or not!

We too only made it ~20 minutes before giving up. Most pointless and nauseating to watch movie EVER. We watched in on our projection system, perhaps we should have tried in on the small screen, to avoid the motion sickness :16:
