I have an MDX with 3500 miles on it. I have had several rear end noises. The rear differential & wheel bearing has had to be replaced. I still continue to hear noises that seem to come from the rear, creaking, thud. Has anyone experienced similar problems?
I'm not sure if something similar is happening with your car, but you should see the following thread regarding "The Thud."

We have seen the rear shock assembly leaking which was the culprit in an annoying squeak/creak in the rear suspension...this had manifested itself after several hundred total miles
Hello All...
I just got my Silver MDX Touring w. Navi.
Love it love it love it!!!

However I do notice noise from the real when going over small bumps, making turns etc... The noise was relevant both without the rear headrests stowed and with them stowed... I dont know if this is the way it should be for a while or if it is a problem after all.. The vehicle has less then 150 miles on it but I am worried...this set me back a few bucks :-).

Please advise here or via email at tarun@tarun.com

Thanks

Yesterday I just got my MDX back from having the right rear
shock replaced. It basically died on me, so I was getting
lots of creaks over small bumps, and while turning, and so on. That might be something to look at.

Why did the rear differential have to be replaced, may I ask?? Seems like a major reliability problem...... I'm really hoping that Acura will address these quality/reliability issues.
... are from the three boys in the back seat!!
From the first day we received our GG Touring MDX back in March, I noticed a slight roar/hum from the rear differential area at around 60 mph or so. The vehicle we had previously, '98 Montero, did the same thing for the entire 3 years we leased it, never worsening. So I've decided to wait and monitor the sound and see if anyone else is reporting some serious (similar)rear-end noise. Everything else seems to be okay. I MAY have heard "the Thud" once (my wife drives the MDX primarily). I wish the vehicle had more soul (like a German or European make), the front driver seat/driving area was more "intimate", and I simply abhor the Bose system (I'm a bass-hungry kind of guy!). My wife loves it, though!

Two weeks ago on mothers day we went for a little excursion in the sierra foothills near sonora. 35 miles of dirt and gravel roads.
All washboard and potholes. I was sweating the thud at every turn. It was smooth as glass all the time. Never had any
skidding or loss of traction.

I have 1800 miles, mostly freeway. I do have the weeping mirror in spades. Last for days after a wash with globs of white
residue.

At the end of the 35 miles I came up to about 100 yards of asphalt and began a slowdown for a stop sign. The wierdest
vibration came from the back end even without the brakes applied. After I pulled away from the stop I did not hear the
vibration again. Wierd.

Took me two hours to wash the car as the dust was everywhere. Could not even see out of the rear window.

Oh!Oh! Either I'm losing it or you've posted this before MGTD.:D :D :D

I had to get the zone manager to look at my MDX, he said the gears in the differential were not right. The car made a clicking noise when you put it in reverse. I do not think it was going into 4-wheel drive unless you pushed the V-Lock button. I got stuck off road and could not get loose without pushing this button. It should have gone through the mud without having to manually engage 4-wheel drive.

have not been to the mdx.org site recently.... did see your May post concerning rear end whine/hum. ours has had this problem since day one. in fact, your the first in any forum to precisely describe our symptom (search for my post re: rear-end roar/whine.

this whine/hum is the most aggravating problem that we've had. will be taking it in soon for routine maintenance and a formal ***** session!

This has also been very annoying for me. After the rear differential was replaced the whine and click went away. However, I still have many unusual sounds coming from the rear end of the car. I have been very disappointed with the reliability with my MDX. I have owned other Acura's and they seem to have much better build quality.
Now have 8000 on Mesa Beige Touring/Navi... great car!!! Have had sort of a "clunk" from rear, shen stopping abruptly (even at a very low speed), and car "recovers" from the stop. Just had it into my dealer here for 7500 mile service, complained about this... they thought the rear Brake calipers, (which are floating), were making the noise.. mechanic removed calipers, put a little piece o0f some plastic stuff behind calipers, and reassambled... noise gone!!! He said this would not be permanent, but would prove what the noise was... Interesting!!! Awaiting a permanent fix!
