This didn't look all that good to me. I thought I could do better, you be the judge. I wanted more heel-kick coverage, thats the part of carpet that has worn-out first in our other cars.

Excellent job! I use the same mats but did not got to the lengths you did. Impressive.

Great Job!!!

After a year of ownership, my backseat has never been used. But if I had kids or passengers to carry, I'd definitely do what you did!
Looks terrific!

zafer - Great job! :D

As you seem to be fairly particular about the fit of your floor mats, what did you think about the fit of the WeatherTechs in the front? Did you do anything special up there? Any extra cutting for that 'perfect' fit?

:p Not something you should really be admitting to on the web, right? :19: One or the either should work if not both; esp. one being an MDX.

Nothing.
They're smaller than the base. Just lay them down, they don't need to be trimmed.

:2: :19:

But with the second and third rows down could someone still say that the second row seat has never been used??:8:

I have the grey weathertech mats in the front and second row. I trimmed my second row mats almost exactly the same and they fit perfectly. The front mats cover the dead pedal area and fit well without any trimming. I called mats.com and they said that they presently do not have a mat to fit the third row.
rjmitche
Hey zafer - did you remove the standard Acura carpet floor mats in both the front and second row before putting down the WeatherTechs? Can't wait to see what you come up with for the third row! :D

Also, I think you mentioned in the chat last night that you went with the Acura OEM Cargo Tray (black) rather than one of the tan ones offered by WeatherTech or Husky (or others?). Care to elaborate on your decision making process? I've read a lot of the previous threads on this and can't decide if I should just go with the black Acura cargo tray because of the custom fit (especially around tiedown hooks) or one of the others because of the color match. :8:

I went with the Black Cargo tray because it won't show the dirt as much as tan and it's sole purpose for me is to prevent dirt from getting onto the carpeted area. The weekly trips to Home Depot can take a toll on a car's interior.

Yes. I'll remove the WTs in spring and put the carpet mats back. The WTs bottom make a pattern on the carpet mats.

`cause it was there. Jamie includes the cargo tray with his MDXs. I think the black looks fine. No decision making process, its a CARGO TRAY ;) :p You only see it when loading/unloading.

Like you, my MDX has a tan interior. I also went with the Acura Black Cargo Tray. The fit is excellent and the black color serves a utilitarian purpose in keeping the carpeting of the rear cargo area clean.

What did you use to do the cutting?
EXCALIBUR
ablatt,

A sharp scissors works.

I just got my 03 MDX (white with quartz gray interior) and the big problem here in MI is salt and slush in the winter and since I do a lot of trout fishing with wet and sandy waders in the summer. I had thought of getting some of the ribbed rubber mats but went for a different solution. I got some gray indoor/outdoor carpeting at the local Lowe's Home Center (6' wide, rubber backed) to cut a full cargo area mat so I could dump my fishing gear, wading boots, etc. in the back. The gray of the carpeting is nearly a perfect match for the gray of the MDX carpeting. It cuts cleanly with a Stanley knife and I made a perfect fitting mat for the cargo area. I'll just keep it in even for grocery and flower/nursery runs. I had enough left over so I used the front mats as a pattern and cut two mats for the slushy/fishing season. The beauty of this stuff is that I just take them out and vacuum them off with the regular carpet vacuum (the easiest way to clean mats) when their just dusty and gritty. When their really dirty just scrub them clean, hose them, hang them over the fence for a quick dry and they look like the OEMs and good as new. Total cost: 12 bucks for the carpet and a couple of hours for careful cutting.

Allen Chichanski,

Great idea. Using the OEM mats for a template should give you a perfect fit. Did you have to do anything to the edges of the indoor/outdoor carpeting to keep it from fraying? Can you post some pictures for us?

Wow

Lots of cool pix!

But after looking at it.. I still like the Acura's all weather matt.. they look better.. heh

As for the 3rd roll I guess it has to be weather tech?..

:29: Just wanted to say "Thanks!" to zafer for posting the extremely detailed pictures of his WeatherTech 'customization'... made it extremely easy for me to do the same with mine.

Thanks again!

I followed Zafer's directions and am very happy with the results - thanks for the very detailed pictures and instructions! I like the color match to the interior (saddle).

I plan to trim my old OEM second-row rubber mat to fit the third row. I also will continue to use my old front OEM rubber mats on those days when I'm in the mountains hiking or trail building and get really dirty so I can just pull them out to wash. The original carpet mats? I've only used them a couple of times - funerals and weddings when I had to wear my suit...

I was gonna get weathertech/cannon mats for my saddle interior (as the Acura all weather mats are black only) but then I went to the RETAIL location of Emmons Coachworks (where I have picked up some pretty nice automotive stuff in the past) and they had Rubbertite Mats by Lloyds Design.

These are really nice. FULLY CUSTOM DIE CUT!!! Much better coverage of the carpet than even the OEM carpet mats!! Covers the "not a deadpedal" 100%. Punched to fit on the "no move" posts that Acura has attached to the floor. Excellent saddle color. (they come in gray & black too). Best part -- CHEAP! $30 for fronts or $60 for front & mid (they also will sell you third row and cargo area mats too)

Only possible downside is there is no "rim" so if you REALLY bring in a ton of snow with you it MIGHT spill out of those neat little wells...

I was just ready to order the WeatherTech floor mats and now I see this post about the Lloyd Rubbertite mats. I've never heard of these Rubbertite mats before. Can anyone else comment on them?

How do they compare to WeatherTech's?
EXCALIBUR
renov8r,

Since you have a set of the Rubbertite Mats by Lloyds Design in your MDX, would you mind posting some pics for us? It would sure be nice to see how they look in an MDX. Thanks.
:awais:
renov8r
...it might take me a while, but I'll try to get some posted in a day or so -- the link to emmons shows the color, but you need to see the SHAPE to understand how much coverage there is.

The middle row one-piece mat goes pretty much from sill-to-sill and is cut to fit very tight around the seat mounts on the front and middle row.

The front passenger is also a sill-to-console coverage. The driver side does a very good job of covering the "working areas" and is longer/wider than the OEM carpet mat.

(... gosh I could've snapped a pic in the time it took to type that -- a picture == 1K words...)

renov8r,

Thanks for the description of the Rubbertite Mats. I currently have the WeatherTech Mats. If the Rubbertite Mats are as you describe, I may have to consider changing over. Standing by for your pics.:4:

I think that you can go to the gallery and search on my mmeber name (where you'll then get hits for the Rubbertite mats, my bumper gouge, my Pep Boys door edge guard & my beautiful photographer's assistant) OR search the gallery for Rubbertite Mats.

(sorry it took me so long to post, my Chocolate Lab died -- she was 13 and went peacefully on her own, but I was still a wreck...)

Or, anyone can just click on the 'gallery' button below any of your posts and be taken directly to your gallery :) (nice pics!).

(Sorry to hear about you Lab :( )

The Rubbertite Mats in your Gallery really do look nice. I may have to order some very soon.

Q: I see the front mats featured on the link you provided. How do you order the mats for the second row area?

My install was similar to Zafer's, but I chose the Weathertech Advantage mats. I got the set(2 front, 2 rear) from Weathertech for $95+S&H. I have the Classic in my BMW, but felt the carpeted Advantage model was more in line with the MDX's luxury feel. '03 MDX mats at Weathertech.com

I bought from Weathertech before with no problems so I just did the same for the MDX; I did not scour the Internet for the best deal. I did checked Tim's site and was unable to find them. Since he carries the Classic model, I would think he could source the Advantage model if it made business sense to do so.

Driver's mat. Acceptable fit, but not custom.

I just got back from several days of flyfishing with waders and soggy felt-bottom boots. These mats performed admirably!

Note:
I took these pics late in the day and had to use a flash. I believe the flash reflected differently off the mat's carpet than the X carpeting. In natural light, the mat color matches up well with the Saddle interior.
Skewbeedeaux
Front passenger mat fitment not custom, but this area is normally out of view due to glovebox.
Skewbeedeaux
Factory score lines allow for nice fit around Rear AC control pod (or whatever it's called. Sorry, not busting out manual to find correct Acura descriptor). Left and right mats are not conected. They just butt-up to each other. Weight of mat minimizes movement.

2nd row Weathertech mats line up well to factory mats. No shrewd reason behind leaving the factory mats on; just didn't have room to store in garage.

Those second row mats look nice. Carpeted mats certainly are a better match for the MDX. I'm back to the oem mats for the summer. The purpose of the pickup truck style WeatherTechs is to capture winter mud and slush. We used them during the winter, esp. ski trips. They can hold plenty of water when the snow you track in melts. Very easy to clean too. I really don't get why you would prefer to use the carpeted WT Advantage's over the oem mats. Anyone know how much a new set of oem mats cost?
Skewbeedeaux
The Advantage mats share similar characteristics to that of the Classic. According to mfr, they hold up to 1½ quarts of liquid (presumably in the carpeted well). OEMs won't do that. While flyfishing last week, I got into my X several times with waders and water-logged wading boots to move to different locations along the river. My Chota STL boots have thick felt bottoms with metal cleats. They tracked plenty of water into the X. No spillage.

My Classics (in my BMW) appear to have a greater capacity that the Advantage, but I trade a bit of capacity for luxury in the X. The Classics also are easier to clean.
renov8r
Emmons Coachworks is the store. There is a retail location in Villa Park IL. The owner is Larry Emmons and he is pretty laid back and accomodating. If you give him a call I'm sure he'd call the Lloyyds folks and order just the rear mat (which I think is $30). Lloyds also have floor mat that is die cut for the third row passenger section, and a die cut mat for the whole cargo area (maybe even one for the cargo area with the third row seats up).

Price is very fair for what you get...

Thanks

....sorry, haven't got my rear in gear for that yet. We've only needed to use the third row once so far so its not even on the 2do list. One of these days, probably early this spring.

Doesn't look like these are available anymore :( I need new ones.
