Low Humming noise at 70 mph? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I agree. I find the drone to be less but it is still there (at least at highway speeds). Oh well. For $8 it still reduces the drone. YMMV.

I was under the impression that the fix would eliminate the drone. I must have missed your prior post. Thanks for filling me in. I feel better knowing that my results are as expected.

I'm taking my 2002 to the dealer tomorrow armed with info from this thread. Has anybody else with a 2002 had the droning noise problem from the exhaust?

As someone who has heard the drone fro day one, I finally got it fixed. I am happy to report no more drone at 2000 RPM. I was the first one to have it replaced at my dealer and I had to bring in the TSB so they could fix it. It still blows my mind that I had to bring in the TSB so they could fix my car. I printed it off from this thread and gave it to them. Why can't they look it up? They had to order the part and when I brought it in to have it replaced they looked for a broken hanger and could not find one. I told them that they weren't going to find a broken hanger and to just replace the one form the TSB. The guy said if I had the TSB it would be easier for them than to look it up.

Why aren't they required to review all the new TSB once a month so they know what they heck is going on. Better yet, why don't the call and schedule an appointment to fix the outstanding TSB's or offer to fix them when you bring the car in for an oil change or service. Seems like they could be more proactive instead of being clueless.

Anyway, no more drone. I love the car even more now that it is quite.

Took my 2002 in for 30K service and to fix the drone problem. The good news: They were aware of the problem and the TSB. The bad news: They called later in the day and said the TSB only applied to 2004 models, but they test drove it and didn't hear the noise but there was consideraable rain that day. They asked me to bring it back the next day with clear weather.

I picked it up and have been driving it for 2 days and the droning noise is completely gone! I'm wondering if my drone was coming from another source. VTM4 and tranny fluid were changed. Any ideas?

I took my MDX to fix the drone. They replaced the old part with a new part (#18215-S3V-A12). The drone is even more obvious than when I had the old hanger in there. I had a case manager involved. Met with a Factory Rep back in mid January. He promised to call me back, but it's now Mar. 1st. The problem is still not fixed. No calls from the Factory Rep. Acura's representatives that I have met thus far are idiots, liars, and incompetent. Never again will "Acura" be on my consideration list when I look for a new car.

I'm tempted to buy the hanger from Tim. But I already have a new hanger under there and it's not reducing the noise.

I live in NJ. The temperature around here is usually in the 30's, and the drone in my MDX ~2000RPMs sounds like a loud engine that has no muffler.

Tispo,

Did the new hanger fix the drone for your MDX? I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks,

I wonder if replacing both #12 and #10 in zafer's picture will completely eliminate the drone. So far I replaced #10 (I guess it was the wrong one) and the drone is more subtle but I can still hear it.

I'm going to replace the other one #12 this weekend.

Well, its pretty strange but whenever i have a problem with a car, theres always someone else whom has the same thing. Had it all the way to acura with my cl=s and tranny probs, and starting to relize probs with my 03 MDX now. I have been having radio remote probs, up vol changing channels, down vol, increasing vol, and now my passenger window wont open (and no the child lock is not on), and I heard that damm noise this past weekend while driivng at like 70mph on the turnpike. I dont get to drive on the highway much, but originally i thought it was the wind, but i guess after reading this thread, and since im goin to acura tom to complain about my window, radio and now sound. I was goin to change the intake to one i bought from a guy on this site, i wonder if that will help, unless its a exaust issue. I was always used to loud grunts cause i had a flowmaster dual chamber exaust on my cl-s and loved it, but this was a sound that didnt belong.

Great news.. I will be calling my dealer this morning to order the part. BTW should the dealer now the part # (#18215-S3V-A12). Or should I have it handy? Another thing, is the part covered under warranty for 04models? So this a recall for the 04 model? Can someone confirmed that. I don't what to have any hassle with the dealer.

much appreciated.
kvfhg
It's not a recall. It's a Service Bulletin. Don't be confused between the two. When you call them, mention Service Bulletin # 04-027 "Exhaust System Droning at 2,000 rpm During Cold Weather". Although mine has the noise regardless of weather condition. It's louder in the winter though. This bulletin applies to all 2004 MDX, therefore, will be covered under warranty. Let us know how you make out. Good luck!
kvfhg
Oh, you are from Canada? Canada has a different Bulletin #. That number is X-2-04. The bulletin was issued on May 5, 2004. It applies to 2004 MDX up to 2HNYD18914H002805. The new part number is 18215-S3V-999.

Wanted to let you know that I called my dealership and they "FINALLY" acknowledge the problem. That's after I told them of the service bulletin. Prior to that they still did not admit to it.
BTW thanks to TIM :29: got the bulletin # and smooth sailing from there.
Have an appointment next week to replace it. Will update.

Mine has the dreaded drone. I have read about 10 pages and haven;t seen anything for 2002 although I am glad for TSB on newer MDX's. Let me know.
Thanks

Wow ! I thought I was going insane. Same here. My 2006 has 5500 miles on it and I hear it right at 70 mph. I took mine in for some servicing and got a loaner from my dealer. The loaner MDX does exactly the same thing. Thus, I'll keep mine since it's not an isolated problem. Like one of the posts states - it hits its resonant frequency at that speed/rpm. If it comes from the exhaust then perhaps a small modification to the geometry of the system may take care of the problem. It's a standing sonic wave that is created somewhere in the vehicle.
LanceT
I am also experiencing a noise, almost a buzz, on my 2006 MDX, and am wondering if it the same noise/low humming this tread is referring to. At about 60 mph (95 km/h) the noise starts. If I dip below this speed, the noise stops, or if I feather the accelerator, the noise will also stop. The noise seems to be coming from the front of the car (the dash area). My MDX has been at the dealership for a number of days, and they can’t pinpoint the source of the noise, but have acknowledge that there is a definite noise/buzz at that speed.

Are there any other 2006 owners with this problem, and more importantly is there a fix?

Could someone post this TSB on the humming? TSB (04-027). It's been mentioned several times, but the actual bulletin has not been posted.
