I like trivia stuff. I was happy to see that more people in the lists were older than me than younger than me.

Pretty cool. Now they just need a "What's in the headlines the day you were born" and it'd be perfect.

That's what I needed today, a reminder that I'm old as the hills, and twice as dusty.

Fascinating article in the Houston Chronicle; a recent study illustrated the big differences in age and thus cultural backgrounds between today’s college students and their professors. As the article put it there are significant cultural reference rifts between the students and their professors. I can only presume this rift is at least as significant between elementary, JH, SH students and their teachers. Examples cited include (these examples are from what the study called the Mindset List):

). Ricky Nelson, Richard Burton, Karen Ann Quinlin have always been dead.
). Iraq has always been a problem.
). “Ctrl-Alt-Del” is as basic as ABC.
). Paul Newman always has made salad dressing.
). Pete Rose always has been a gambler.
). Bert and Ernie are old enough to be their parents.
). An automatic is a weapon, not a transmission.
). The snail darter has never been endangered.
). Gas has always been unleaded.
). They have never heard Howard Cosell call a football game.
). Computers always have fit in their backpacks.
). Datsuns never have been made.
). The Osmonds are just talk show hosts.
). College athletes have always been part of the NFL/NBA drafts.
). Test-tube babies are now having their own babies.
). Stores always have had scanners at the checkout.
). The Army has always driven Humvees.
). They always have had a PIN number.
). Directory assistance never has been free.
). There has always been Lean Cuisine.
). There never have been dress codes in restaurants.
). Yuppies are almost as old as hippies.
).They have never seen a First Lady wear a fur coat.
). There always has been a screening test for AIDS.
). They never have gotten excited over a telegram, a long distance call, or a fax.

There are more but you get the idea. Does that make you feel old.
