This may be a first for the site – an MDX towing a parade float!
I was just in the process of installing my hitch and coolers last summer when the call came for a truck to pull the school float in the annual Proctor Hogshead Parade. (The Hogshead refers to a locomotive engine, Proctor is a rail town – nothing to do with pagan rituals). Anyway I couldn’t pass up the chance to parade the X – got it X’ waxed up, blacked the wheels (the one and only time I’ll do that) – it was stylin!
There were probably 2000 people along the main street of Proctor, Minnesota – this is their big summer festival. It was a riot to eavesdrop on the comments as we cruised down the street– “Wow, what is that? Nice rig! Look at the turkey in that really nice car”, etc.
Anyway, here's a few pix from parade day! :D
(Meant to post this earlier, but, you know, stuff happens...) |

| Rigging up - it started off cold and windy - I thought the 4x8 sheets of plywood on back were going to turn into a sail. Didn't tell anyone I had heated seats. |

It looks like your MDX was "the hit of the parade.":4: |

Thanks, here's another quickie - this is a frame from a video clip that I copied onto my computer off my camcorder from a VCR tape that came off my my brother-in-law's camcorder. I don't think it was worth all that, except to know that it's possible.
BTW, the kid with the sling belongs to me -he's a taekwondo red belt but got that in a kid pileup. |

Hi Ghost:
___I believe you deserve a shot at the Front Page with your MDX used in the manner shown! I think the floats trailer could have used some chrome Manik’s and Touring’s to complete the package however ;)
___As a side note, I love parades and kids!
___Admin, how about it? Ghost’s Parade thread is about the best I have read this month and it will take all of our minds off the cold …
___Good Luck

Thanks guys - :7: I did send a copy of the picture to Admin - we're currently working out the details with the royalties, etc.
Speaking of Mardi Gras - fate has it that I'm attending a meeting of the American Association of Geographers in New Orleans that starts March 4 - so I'll be showing up in downtown New Orleans on Mardi Gras! :jester: I'm jazzed.
(I'm not a geographer, and, in fact, wonder what kind of partiers the AAG are. One of them did have the chutzpah to schedule a meeting in the Big Easy at Mardi Gras, though, I'm impressed! You never know.)
Haven't found a way to get my 'X down there for the parade yet though! :D |

I used to live in New Orleans for about 6 years (all three of my kids were born there) - Mardi Gras can be a lot of fun; but you really do want to keep your car far away from the parade routes:rolleyes:
You have to be a professional parade attender to get the most out of it - the longtime locals were simply amazing with all their parade gear. |

(weeping) You like me! You really like me! (sniff..)
Hey, thanks all,
This is great, kind of like making the cover of the Rolling Stone, only without the immediate obsolescence…
So I suppose there’s a few people I need to thank, in addition to my nominating committee :D
Admin! Without him, we’d just be a bunch of random people surfing the Internet. Who knew this would end up as a 10,000 thread site? Thanks for keeping the site redesigned and organized in the face of unconstrained growth!
Thanks to the site’s Old Guard, my buddy and sparring partner Remery, the inimitable DMor, GIFmaster RoadRunner, MesaBeige, wmquan, VicPai (who bought an MDX, can you believe it!), Rail, the Traveller, the mathematically perplexing msu79>82, Vip9, MGTD, and lots of others who have come and gone.
Thanks to the current keepers of the flame – Dale, Paul123, MDXxxx, srpbep, FireBlade, laborlitigator, BaldEagle, Xcel and all you other 5+ per day posters that keep fielding the threads (don’t you guys have day jobs?)
Of course, the moderators, the ever-vigilant Worm, RoadRunner (again!), our retired moderator, longtime fanatic and soon-to-be-groom Acura4Life (good luck, Paul!).
The man who calls himself “Tim” – (all hail!) -the primary reason folks here at work have nicknamed my X the “Death Star”
My vintner buddy Marne, who recently shipped me a box of “Car Parts” – complete with diversionary jars of rattling screws – will be popping the cork on those babies any day now (hey, everyone that can, go out and buy yourself a bottle of J-Wine..)
The whole gang in the Word Association thread – Caroline and Liberty (who came and went, and came back!), the Hammer brothers, Excalibur, ByeByeChrysler, GreatScot and JohnnyGoodBoy – there’s a great Master’s degree in Sociology here…
Ardvaarkus, who guilted me into buying a torque wrench…
(oh-oh, the music is starting to swell)
All the trolls who have provided so much entertainment over the years, particularly Super Senior Troll KenKeeb…
My Mom and Dad – Dad who would clean the radiator hoses on the Cutlass Boughman Supreme (88, Mom still drives it), the Buick Regal, and the old ’62 Catalina convertible, and had his own torque wrench
God, who has a lot better sense of humor than people give him credit for.
OK, that’s it then…
[BadElvis]
Thank you, thank you very much

Another Oldie but a Goodie (an apology to newbies;) ): How about an MDX undergoing a "real test drive" |
|
|
| TheWorm |
| That's a touching acceptance speech, Ghost. Well-deserved. Maybe "I've hated the seats since my test drive; I've hated the handling since my test drive; I've hated the interior since my test drive; I've hated the car in general since my test drive" KenKneeb will check in to say congrats. Well, hopefully not :D |

| Ok, well I like that picture too, but don't you think it is time for a new one? You can post mine up there with all the snow surrounding it, but i dont think it'll look that cool. Wait till i'm done with my X! It'll be ridin on 20s with a whole lotta other stuff too. Has anyone submitted a new picture for the front page? I dont know, it gets kinda boring lookin at the same pic everytime. How about choosing a random pic from the galleries. How about admin? |

Hi B-B-MDX:
___Ghost’s X story and pic’s have only been up there for ~ month. Jeeessshhhh!
___A little history … at least as long as I have been here? There was the X-Meet on the East coast, the X meet on the West w/ Marne’s winery, the X-treme X trip with TheyCallMeBruce, his wife, and his X for a short ride up to the Arctic Circle and back, and than there was Ghost’s Parade X. The only other pictorial/story I believe that has been worthy of the front page in the last month or two was Arzoo’s brand new X and his and his wife's trip home during the East Coast snow storm/blizzard just a week or two ago … There will be others.
___Good Luck

Yea, I was hoping my 15 minutes of fame would last at least a month... Heck, it took me a week just to write the acceptance speech! :)
But Xcel's right, there's lots of good stories out there - just have to stick around to see them! |
