I have just returned from my dealer who checked out the front end clunk I have noticed recently (7000mi) on my 2002 MDX. He has ordered a "29 SPECIAL ORDER PART - SHIMS; 9195 WPR 0.00" package to install above the front end struts.
The service writer indicated that there have been a number of people describing just such a noise and that Acura has determined that shimming above the struts eliminates the noise. I will see when they are installed.
He said that this noise is a 2002 only problem and that other year models clicks, clunks are due to other things. We did not get into specifics.

Can you describe the conditions in which you hear this clunk, i.e. when coming to a stop, starting out, etc. Thanks.

The clunk I referred to happens when parallel parking. At that slow speed the noise occurs when beginning to move from forward to reverse and vice versa. It is a distinct clunk or thunk sound. Easily heard even over a moderate radio program. There is a physical vibration at the same time too.
I hope this helps.

Sounds like the infamous floating brake pads/calipers changing direction and clunking.... |

Thanks, and I agree it sounds much like the infamous brake click.

I appreciate the comments from mdxxxx and hammermdx concerning the clunk I have in my MDX's front end. The dealer's service writer indicates that the REAR brakes make the click and have the well documented "floating calipers" which may or may not respond to the shim kit fix.
My auto's noise is in the front end and the initial quick reaction of the service writer was: "we'll check out the suspension bushings and a couple of other things which may be causing the noise." It seemed he had heard about this on a number of occasions before.
BTW, if the rear brakes need shims and the struts need shims....seems that the MDX's build specs or the mfg process needs some SHIMMING UP!

Please don't laugh. I just talked to service adviser at my Acura dealer in regards to brake clunking noise. They confirm that the problem exist and just discussed it with the Acura regional manager this Morning. Supposedly, there is a TSB exist on this problem eventhough I couldn't find it @ NHTSA website. Here is a funny part. According to service adviser, they suppose to use their BUSINESS CARD to insert somewhere to get rid of clunking noice. The noise will come back though...:19:

Can't to hear how a business card can fix this.....just when you think you've heard and seen it all!
